Well I thought I better update on what things I am doing to my camper.

On the 2012 Cape trip I tore both drop down legs. The legs were incorporated into the Jerry can holders so I got my new best friend who cut them off and weld some metal to support them.

Only having a 60ltr water tank I added another 80ltr today. Just have to plumb it all in. I am also going to add some rubber to protect the new water tank. It will be bolted on where the stone damage is.

Oh my new best friend builds boat trailers and repairs trailers and is a fantastic welder that charges very little and best of all he now lives a kilometer away and has a 200m2 shed / workshop.

Mr McGirr,

3 things:

1) It took me a while to work out what that first photo was. Man, you weren't kidding about bending those legs. That's some awesome work there. Good on your New Best Friend for cutting it all off so neatly.

2) The new water tank - whereabouts did you get it from? I'm thinking of adding a second 85L one to our camper if I can get one for a realistic price.

3) The new water tank - what did you use to mount it? Just big tek-screws I'm guessing? Great job - it looks like it was made to fit there.

Cheers,
Matto :)

Matto

Yes bent both sides. But he did a fantastic job cutting them off.

Re the water tank , got it from ebay link below. Dunn and Watson.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/141022909438?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

It fitted perfectly between 2 cross beams on the camper. Using the trolly jack helped getting it in the exact spot and I used 12 x 35 tek screws and Pre drilled the holes. Took me 20 minutes to install. A record for me doing any thing.  ;D

Thought I better update what I have been doing to the camper.

Added another water tank (80ltrs) to the camper so now have 140ltrs all up all plumbed separately so I can use either tank when camping.

There was a bracket that held a hand pump attached to the front tool box but the pump was hopeless so I used this as the filler for the 80 ltr water tank. I can either use a hose or a funnel if adding water from a Jerry can.

Added another battery in the tool box wired into the main battery and it sits in a milk crate so I can take it out if needed. Total 200ah.

I had a large piece of thick rubber sitting in the garage that I attached to protect the front water tank.

New tyres now added and I think I have finished everything ready for the Cape trip.  ;D

Water tank filler for the second tank with a screw on lid.

Soaked the hose in hot water and connected the plastic elbows. Did not worry about clamps as once cooled the hose will not come undone.

You will need a breather of some sort .

Maybe it would of been better to "T" the outlet and use the top hole as a breather when filling . Those elbows will make it a slow fill and a potential air lock at each one .. I know it makes it neat and tidy but could hinder ezy / quick fill ..

looks good

Cheers

You can't see it in the photo but there is a breather  ;D

Yes I thought about the air lock but tested and it fills up ok.

Thought I would start some more upgrades on the trusty camper.

Got rid of the old tail lights and added some fancy looking led ones. I don't have reverse wiring set up but that does not worry me. Thanks to Symon for help on the phone. There is plenty of silastic to try and keep them dust and water proof. Not bad for $26 a pair.

Tested and they work.

Another idea was to keep the stone chips down on the stone guard so I added some clear tubing I had. It's still a work in progress.
