Jayco Bed Fly's

I have a soft floor camper but like the look of the Jayco's, but am wondering about the bed flys. Are they necessary and what do they do? I have seen a few people put them up and they seem to take longer to but up than the camper.

They are there mainly so you can keep the internal flaps open inside the camper and still allow and breeze through; puls aford some privacy inside the bed ends. Also used as weather protection over the bed ends and saves the canvas getting soaked.

Great answer,  plus the birds and sap lands on the flies instead of the canvas.

And they keep the cold night air off the canvas and they also keep the beds cooler in the warmer weather. We use to always use ours maybe took 10 minutes at the most to set up. 

They also allow the beds to stay dry when packing up in the rain

Hi Kalex
We only use ours if its very hot to keep the sun of bed ends and
when its a very cold night to stop condensation inside bed ends .
Other than these times it is never used .

Hello Kalex, I put up our bed flys up every time including overnight roadside stops for all the reasons mentioned earlier. However the main reason is they stop bird poop and tree sap getting on the canvas. Best way to devalue your camper is stained canvas. I learnt my lesson when I parked under a tree in Leonora a few years ago with my previous camper not realising it was the cockatoo's night toilet. What a mess we awoke to, never cleaned up. Since that event my Jayco has been crapped on by any number of birds big and small  and you should see the mess the fruit bats can make in one night. And I haven't even started on sap. The plastic bed end flys are a good investment IMO

I agree with most comments above. A worthy investment, and pretty easy to use. I roll them out every time i pop up the camper. No hassle at all really.

You don't always have to use the posts, i usually just leave them hanging. If its windy/wet or stinking hot i setup with posts and ropes to give that gap between canvas and fly.

Have to agree with all the comments above, and have to reiterate it's easier cleaning the mess up of the plastic than the canvas

as well as the PVC bed flys .... mine also have the solid side walls ( also PVC) that are zipped on as extra weather protection. great for when the wind is blowing as well as the rain. 

i can also zip up the sides at the corners and roll them up too

also regarding the beds, can you leave your beds made up when you pack the camper away?

we do (except for the pillows which we place on the seats).

hey mate.
we find them very good especially if its raining and wind blowing.all they are is just a zipper stitched onto the existing bed fly and the sides are pvc the same as the top. thew only thing i did to them was had zippers put in the two corners so i could leave them on in fine weather and just zip up the middle parts. this helps when you get an unexpected afternoon storm.
