Not an ex, still current and love it........

Join Navy 1990 as an ET (Electronic Technician) and served on the following ships;
HMAS Bendigo
HMAS Townsville
HMAS Gladstone
HMAS Tobruk
HMAS Canberra
HMAS Adelaide
and currently on HS RED which is HMAS Leeuwin and HMAS Melville (Hydrographic Survey Ships) out of Cairns.

Love the Navy but if they decide to move me out of Cairns then it's time to move on........I would highly recommend it to any young man or woman........Did also spend time at Brisbane Recruiting as General Entry Campaign Manager Navy, interesting job........ :cheers:

Teabag,Spent 72/73 in Brisbane recruiting.I was doing the mobile stuff visiting schools and shows from Lismore to Rockhampton and back to the border.Never a dull moment and plenty of good yarns to recall.

We need some RAAF in here! Joined '87 and still loving it as a crusty Warrant Officer. Currently doing another stint in the MEAO. Should be back home by the end of May. Looking forward to getting the 4by and CT out for some QT in the bush. Have had enough of the sand for now...

'87 - '95 LSMTP3 Only spent time on the warries Torrens, Parramatta ( just a navex :) ) and a couple of drafts on good ol Hobart :)

Would've been great for a decent shore posting or a love boat berth :)

Sailstruc sailor, inbetween the crusty ratstruc and the new aligned od's :D

Now based west but did all my time over east

Not ex military, still serving in the RAAF as an AVTECH, 15 years today. Been posted to 38SQN, 38SQN Det B, 2SQN, 77SQN and now at 75SQN. Have had so much fun and seen so much. Loved every minute of it.

Hey Teabag, you might have been at defence recruiting when I was there in Brisbane Edward Street from Jan 93 till Nov 95. I was the Field Recruiter West. Currently have family in Cairns at the Navy base, goes by the name of Chopper.

What surprised me is the Navy doesn't seem to mind when its ETs go AWOL, I was working with a guy who just decided not to turn up after a while and the Navy never pursued the matter although if he worked the same with the Navy as he did with me I could understand why they might have been happy to see the back of him...

No, I was at Recruiting in 2002 as General Entry Campaign Manager. Basically selecting enlistments (who got in), testing etc.......Interesting job but busy as hell..... ;D

Hi all did 12 years as a grunt

2 x 2/4 bn laverack
1x  dsu adelaide
1x  8/7 rvr balleratt

got out and enlisted in the reserves only lasted 2 months couldnt get my head around there attitude back then enlisted 1981 ,discharged 1994  look back on the best times and the laughs forget the bad times  learnt a lot about life and how to live with others in close confines and respect for your mates not like a lot of youth today ,went to my first anzac ceremony last year and wore my defence medal for the first time in 16 years maybe i might even see if i can march this year, didnt see any active service so maybe i dont have the right to march would do it all again in a flash

Hey crispy, I did 20 years and didnt see active service but like all service personnel you train for the one day when you might have too, you were there and ready to go, and I am sure you like the rest of us were involved in many other things besides war, hold your head high mate :cup:

Just for a change, joined the RAAF in '79, worked in Recruiting for 7 yrs, went to night school to finish my education so I could apply for pilot training, 2 applications and RAAF rejected me twice - spat the dummy and applied for Army and Navy as a pilot - accepted by both. Chose Navy, able to quit RAAF. Got my wings clipped and didn't complete flying training. Another dummy spit and resigned, got out in '87.

Regret not staying in the pussers but only on days ending in "y"

Still keep in touch with ex-service mates. Just met up with one I hadn't seen in 24years and it was instant "old times" - no change, we both just look a little more distinguished (grey).

Haven't been able to bring myself to wear the Defence Medal as I didn't see "active" service but always go to Anzac Dawn service

Really proud of our current crop keeping the ANZAC spirit alive.

I don't think it matters how long your served for, or what type of service you gave, the simple fact that you put your hand up and said "pick me" sets you apart. Be proud to wear your service medals on ANZAC day, you've earnt it! We all know what goes into serving our country and the part that service has played in making this the best damn place on the planet!

Not everyone leaves military service with the best memories or experiences, but I have lost count of the number of ex-serving members who have told me, over a cold one on ANZAC Day, that it was the best time of their lives. I couldn't agree more!

Marching on ANZAC day is not about whats on your chest but whats in it. It takes a special person to serve in the ADF otherwise anyone would give it a go. Stand tall and proud its an exclusive club. One im proud to be a member of.

Be proud of your gongs mate, doesnt matter what colour your fruit salad is, we all joined to serve  a greater purpose. Like many families I had many of mine in former generations serve under ANZAC, including the Light Horse Regiment, WW2, Vietnam etc.

Screw what anybody says mate, if you were award your gong you deserve the right to wear it. I got mine and let my 10 year old wear the minatures on ANZAC Day with his school march.

Another RAAFie,

I did 21 years in uniform, got out in 1999 and am still working for them in 2011.  I had a couple of years away but I just keep getting dragged back.  Like a few others here I feel that I served in the peace time Defence Force as I never deployed for real.  I do feel that I trained for 21 years yet never played a game but know that whatever happened in my time I was ready to go.  March, wear your medals and hold your head high (even though I haven't yet). You were there and ready to do what was required of you.  That's a commitment worth acknowledging.
