4 out, pity I left at tea :(

Nice day to be at the cricket though :)

A win would have been nice but we have won the series so that's all that counts. Ground surface looks amazing in that pic

a declaration last night with 280 lead would have been nice, so there was some chance of an exciting competition....

They would have been worried that kholi and Rohane might have got a go on again.
They were two up in a four game series, so a draw wins them the series where as a loss means it all goes to the last game to decide. They were always going to play it safe.
But yes, an earlier declaration would have made for a more exciting end.
Still surprised they didn't finish out the last 5 overs though. Australia had nothing to loose. might have only taken one more wicket for the cards to fall.

4 x overs left and smith gives up. Watson was about due to get a hat trick and Johnson could have finished off the tailenders. Gutless by smith should have kept going at them until the very last ball!

There would have been team orders. Don't be to hard on Smith. I really like him as a cricketer and Captain so all good to be honest. He will get a better fell the more he is captain and what is the point in risking injury for 4 overs?

Ashton Agar added to squad for Sydney. Doubt he'll play though but still good to see he is in the selector's minds. Unless Watto does another fingernail they wouldn't be able to fit Agar in the team.

Isn't that CA policy? Name them in the squad just to keep them contracted so their not totally lost to T20, IPL & BBL

Australia to bat...surprise surprise.  With the flat decks being prepared this summer is there any point to a toss as such? No need to walk out in the middle to inspect, all know that it will be a concrete strip so that the game goes 5 days.  The cynic within suggests that our curators 'may' have been given suggestive instructions on how the pitches were to be prepared.  Johnson's form of the last 2 summers heavily points to why Perth did not get a test match this summer.  Or maybe I'm just a grouch that sees demons every where.

Is it very often that both opening batsmen are on similar amount of runs feels like usually at the start at least one is making the runs and the other is just going along slowly

Ashes selections coming up. Dont be surprised if Watto makes a big score. God knows he's due.

I reckon the flattened this track as much as they could so even he could make runs just to get the public off his back. I reckon he could have ran Smith out without facing a ball then kneecapped him and they still wouldn't drop Watson.

Hope he doesn't end up being one of those 'kill the game' captains that's happy to win 1 game and draw the rest with sleepy boring Shit cricket...

It's only the 1st innings, plan will be to make 650+ and only bat once, then spend the next 3 days talking 20 wickets. It's not that hard if you understand cricket...

depends how you look at cricket..
I know for one I'd rather an exciting finish where it comes down to the last overs to get runs than fall asleep watching a team try and survive and not score runs...

doesn't do it for me.. still a big fan of 50 overs but cant see that lasting many more years..

I guess I like a close competition something in sport.. car/bike racing, cricket/footy... Which most bogans don't judging by the comments section on the age live streaming gig...
