complete campsite and 285/75/R16 tyres
« on: September 23, 2011, 07:34:28 PM »
small question for all complete campsite owners

Is there anyone who has an Uluru or Kakadu who has larger than standard tyres under the trailer.

I am looking to put 285/75/R16 shoes underneath and talking to Neal he said they stick out a little. does anyone have measurements and photos so I can think of ways to put or redesign the guard to cover them, or has anyone had CCC modify the guards to suit them

Would have to be quick as we have just layed down the deposit for an Uluru so building would start very soon.

Need to get the backside into gear and get out camping

Carlos
What size tyres are you using on your trailer now?. Im currently running 265/75R16 and I am considering upgrading to the same tyres as you have described. I was told that the efficiency of the electric brakes (10inch drum) will decrease with the size increase in tyres. Apparently the maximum diameter for a ten inch elec. drum brake is 790mm (265/75R16). If you have the same brake drums you may need to turn your brake controller up a bit more.

Hi DP,

we are getting the Uluru with XT pack with the 12 inch brakes so braking should not be an issue as I said we have just layed down the deposit so don't have it yet - not for at least 4 weeks

They say jealousy is a curse.....they are damm right. I looked into 12 inch electrics but couldnt find drums to suit my bearing configuration.

Hi Carlos. We have the Uluru xt with 12" brakes but have the 265/75/16's. Neil would certainly be right saying anything bigger would stick out from the guards as ours certainly fill them
cheers

Hi Carlos, I have a Kakadu and run 285/70/17 the same tyres as the Landcruiser, yes they are outside the guards but only just, don't see a problem with that though, I supplied these tyres during the build. There are photos of my set up on the forum.  I will post this the shortly include the link so you can see.

Thanks Carl,

My only concern is that I have given them BF Goodrich KM2's and they have very chunky side tread. It may depend on who does the pink slip as to where they measure the tread. and yes they proberbly are a little excessive for a tyre that does nothing but go around but it is what I have on the hungy (only KM's the older style)
