What do think of the GT Camper Trailer
« on: October 03, 2011, 09:28:36 AM »
Hi Group,

I like unique designs and quick to use camper trailers. I have seen the write up in Camper Trailer Australia a few issues back for the GT Camper Trailer by Glenn Torren.

I could see the viewpoints / ideas behind the concept and imagine there must be a market out for lightweight touring campers. They retail around $19K.

I was curious if anybody owned one or has an opinion on them/ what they think.

Would prefer genuine replys please

I like the idea of these campers - especially reusing an unwanted dual cab tray. They would be quick to setup, easy to tow etc etc...

But, I can't help but think they are too expensive for what they are?

$19,990 gets a lot of camper from plenty of other manufacturers, and they have to make their own trailers!

I can see your point on the fact that $19 K buys alot of Camper Trailer, I guess the concept or a similar design might be seen as a possibility for a homebuild job, you could pick up a Toyota tray and perhapes a hard covered canopy and then fit a roof top to it, after that the rest of the build would be up to your skill, budget and imagination.

Also , I think a trailer might be a bit stronger then a ute tub .

Its alot of $$$ for what it is .

hey folks, this thread about my GT Camper trailers is from last October, so pre-dates my joining MySwag!

Luxabout and Campfire - thanks for your interest and compliments however GT campers, too, makes its own chassis, it is a bomb-proof 50x100mm and galvanized. many if not most, trailers are painted.

The GT Camper won’t suit everyone, but with all their pegs and poles and ropes and lots of canvas, most "camper" trailers aren't suitable for travelling, especially away from smooth grassy campgrounds.  The GT Camper addresses a need for experienced travellers who value no-nonsense bushability and ease of set-up in arduous terrain.

GT Campers uses Australian-made long-travel poly-bushed leaf springs that are developed for outback conditions; corrugations etc. Plus the painted tub not only looks attractive compared to the industry-standard exposed welds and chequerplate panels, but is far lighter and more durable than a fabricated box, especially when installed on the bush-tough chassis.
The chassis is designed with the spare tyre and water tank underneath where they are directly supported by the chassis and provide a low centre of gravity and good balance. This low centre of gravity is simple motorsport tech and is far better for off-road balance and performance than draw-bar or tailgate mounted spares.
There is also a considerable amount of development effort into stone shields and dust sealing.
The GT Bikini awning is unmatched for useability - it goes up in 30 seconds to give you instant shade for lunch breaks.
No pegs or ropes required for set-up - you'll love that on rocky ground.
The whole rig sets up and packs up in less than five minutes...
..and on it goes!

Hopefully, this will explain the depth of engineering, premium design and the innovation put into GT Campers…  and why they’re not $8999 with a "FREE!!!" jerry can and "4X4 QUARTER-OFF-ROAD" stickers.

Plus of course the GT Camper is also available as the Toyota Hilux Expedition, a unique all-conditions Tourer.
