In SA it is definitely dry - except for around the Murray. You don’t mention where in SA you are planning to go so it’s hard to tell if you’re plans with be impacted. Expect for outback and along the Murray, I’m not sure of other options for free camping in SA.

Hi Geopaj, Ok thanks for your info, Mainly just in between would free camp on the way down and back, , once down SA find some Beach camps along the coast mainly and payed spots if any spots available, we mainly just stay overnight and move on next day just looking around find some nice spots and come back, bring the tinny fish for squid and KGW,   Craig

I came up the Newell to Millmerran Xmas day. All roads open but heaps of water on the sides of the road all the way from the Vic border to Goondiwindi. The road is as bad as I've ever seen it. The hotmix patches have all blown out leaving approx 200mm lump on the side. I reckon I did about 50ks more than I needed to dodging them. Be super careful if you're towing as oncoming traffic will cross to your side to avoid them and if you hit one full noise I couldn't imagine the damage it would do.

On that note....just wondering if it would be a good time to invest in "warning traffic hazard ahead" signs as there seem to be slot of them out there

Most places are OK except around the Murray. Around the Darling might be a bit sketchy too but not 100% on that. As per Champin just watch the road as many potholes everywhere.
Getting there if half the fun

The other half is a cold beer when you do.
