Advice Re Tears in Rubber Seals of Camper
« on: November 15, 2019, 12:57:59 PM »
Hi All,

I was just hoping I could get some advice, we have two very small tears in the rubber seals of our Forward Fold camper, not sure how they got there. They aren’t a big deal now, but I want to try and fix them up so they don’t get bigger.

Can anyone advise what I should use to fix them? I’m assuming there is some kind of rubber glue or product I can use to put on the tear to re-enforce it, from presumably from Bunnings?

Also, does anyone know if we are supposed to do anything to maintain our seals?

Cheers!

Go to your local Clark Rubber or equivalent and get some new pinch weld.

Replace the lot.

Trying to repair it will result in a hard area that will leak dust and water.

Bunnings have rolls of foam rod that usualy gets inserted in the hollow join section of pinch moulds, aprox 6m length is about $12 .. Cheaper way just as good is cut off and roll up a short length of kitchen washer spounge and insert it into about 50 mm either side of the tear.. till it fills the pinch mould firmly .. dab a bit of bear contact on it first but wouldnt need it .

Supaglue probably isn't the best option as it isn't flexible.

Look at something like shoe-goo or shoe-fix, a contact adhesive for repairing rubber soles on shoes. Clear, flexible and made to stick to rubber. Clean it with some metho and glue it back together.
If you have applied silicon spray at anytime, then good luck at making anything stick to it.

Thanks for the replies guys, got some product from Bunnings to fix it. If it’s still not great by the time we get the camper serviced we will get the seals replaced

They use it for joined o-rings. The trick is, keep the glue very thin. I use it for my beer fermenter lid seals too.
