Feedback please - Yakima spare ride bike rack
« on: December 16, 2018, 02:58:56 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has had experience with the Yakima spare ride bike rack. It bolts to the spare wheel rack.
https://www.yakima.com.au/sparetime

I'll be towing a caravan as well
Just wondering if they are a pain in the arse when opening rear door on a prado - guessing I could open the door a bit but will catch on the gas bottles of the caravan.
Or happy for any other suggestions
Thanks

Firstly - Yakima carriers are good gear, I have their roof mount and hitch carriers.
Secondly - I wouldn't fit anything other than a rubbish bin to a Prado spare wheel. The door cracks with the weight of the spare wheel, put a carrier and a couple of bikes on it on a dirt road and you're asking for trouble.

I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go…

Work - Outback
Play - Prado

If your brave enough to test the back door than this is what I did......

fitted spare wheel carrier which removed the spare off the door

Than bolted a grip sport bike rack to the spare wheel carrier

Easiest rack by far in operation

Bikes are nice and high and you will be able to open the door with van attached.

Thanks for the feedback - weight was a concern as the bike carrier itself feels bulletproof with the weight
I'll give it a miss
Cheers
