Fixing Crack in Kayack

Hi experts one of my Seak Kayaks has a crack in the footwell i would like to seal up

The Kayak is made out of a blow moulded plastic (typical sit on Kayak from Annaconda)

What would be the best thing to seal the crack with considering the material
Silicone
Araldyte
Fiberglass
etc

If you can get some shavings from say a deck opening, then that's the ideal - the chemical composition will be identical.

Clean the area up with some metho, and leave it to evaporate off.

Get a blow torch and a paint scraper; heat the paint scraper up (and keep it warm) and you then melt the shavings into the hole using the scraper to pull them into the hole (not the blow torch)

Hope that helps a bit; it's the technique I've used on PE canoes in the past.

I have fixed some cracks in mine, using a plastic welder, pretty easy to do after watching a few youtube vids. I just got one of these https://www.bunnings.com.au/tradeflame-plastic-welding-accessory-kit_p5910355 and hooked it onto one of these https://www.bunnings.com.au/tradeflame-micro-blow-torch-and-soldering-iron_p5910249 Don't know if that is the best place to get them but was in a hurry.

FWIW I was repairing a "professionally done" repair that the previous owners got done and it so far seems to be holding up better than the original repair.

I have used a hot screwdriver with good effect. If you need donor plastic, install a hatch or rod holder and use the waste plastic. The only thing that sticks to a plastic yak is selleys all clear. My transducer has just let go and it was glued in with marine sika.

You can also get donor material from your Sulo/Wiz Bin.

A cheap soldering iron with a chisel Point will also do the job = it works really well.
