Jayco Dove roof rebuild
« on: April 10, 2017, 07:46:32 PM »
I was wondering if anyone out there knows what the finished weight of the roof of a Jayco dove should be, before I go and try to wind it up on the existing winch and cables. I have just done a rebuild on it, and used heavier grade sheet aluminium

I don't know what a roof weighs but Jayco use the same lift system for the smallest model as the largest model , ie swift v swan so maybe you will be ok with weight difference.

Yea with rags.
They also specify you can safely have 100kg extra on the roof.
How much heavier did you go with the material??

I made a hardwood laminate using four layers of three mill hardwood ply as opposed to pine to make the twelve mill replacement sides and back
I clad it with 2.5 mill powder coated aluminium sheet and the same for the roof. All up with the trims it weighs 94kg

Reckon at a fair guess the original roof would have been in the region of a good 60 / 70 + kg, throw on that, the extra 100 for racks and aircon, Soo I'd be guessing you have a fair safety margin with the lift system at 94 kg..
Maybe take note as a precaution that they recommend with the extra weight on the roof and annex pegged out that you use the two eye bolts on the opposite roof corners  and guy rope the roof to offset the weight of the pull to the awning side  to save bending the roof lift tubes ..
