Cub Canvas and Accessories

Our Brumby has the (De-Luxe ?) extended awning which includes the piece that zips onto the front and covers the fridge box and 'front' of the awning section. There is no front or back drop-down sections. At the rear there is however a zip on the main tent and velcro on the lower edge of the awning which suggests that there are additional canvas options. The Cub website is almost hopeless explaining/marketing accessories. Anybody in the Cub Club have additional Cub canvas options? If yes, what options are available and approximate costs?

Sit down and call Cub.  Remember to be sitting down when you call them.  Ask for the options and prices.  Remember to be sitting down when you call.  Then check for other canvas places depending on where you live.

p.s. Did I tell you to sit down before asking them for their prices ?

I fully understand that what they are selling will be solid gold and diamond encrusted.  ;D

They will sell you a canvas end bit similar to your front awning (fits to the zip and velcro you've found).  They have at least two options to join these ends, a flyscreen wall or a canvas wall.  We got the canvas end and flyscreen wall from Cub (solid gold and diamond encrusted).

After that experience and learning the price for the solid gold, diamond encrusted and platinum inlaid canvas wall, I went to a third party supplier who provided a comparable solution without the diamonds or platinum

X2,

Hi UIZ733

I got the full Delux annex when I purchased my Cub Escape, The fridge box end section and first front section (with the window) came as part of the show deal, to complete the annex the extra walls cost (Back wall and wall section with door)  $1332 and the  Draught Skirt   $235 (2009 prices).

Only the back end uses a zip where it attaches to the main tent, all the rest of the annex attaches with velcro.
so it would be east for a third party to make up.

I made up a shadecloth wall for the annex with our standard sewing machine, I sewed on 50 mm velcro to the shadecloth to attach it to the annex and added some reinforced eyelets to attach it to pegs.

It works well in the warm weather and cuts the afternoon sun if it is coming into the annex.

After a wet weekend camp, I realised the way Cub had done the opening in my annex to access my fridge from inside the annex was VERY poorly done for camping in wet weather. There was  only a 50mm flap attached to the outside of the fridge box opening and no way to attach it to the fridge box, so rain would come in fridge box flap when it was open. My Cub Escape was one of the first made with the fridge box.

I think the Cub fridge boxes were were original made for the narrower Cub Kamparoo range. On my  Cub Supamatic Escape the fridge box on the drawbar sits 100mm in on each side from the width of the trailer.

I had a local canvas guy remove the 50mm flap(shown on top of the fridge box in one of the photos) and add a new extension that comes 250mm out from the tent and goes all the Way around the fridge box opening. I also had shock cord sown into the outer edge to allow me to slide the extension over my fridge box and then pull the shock cord tight to hold it in place and  KEEP the Rain out. I loop the shock cord up over the top of the fridge box to pull it tight. Cost was $85.00

Much better arrangement now, I can now leave the fridge box flap open and not have a rain or wind problem.

Thanks for the pictures Ray and replies by others. I am quite happy with the front (around the fridgebox etc) arrangement and it performed well in an absolute downpour recently. The main reason for the enquiring about the back end was with a view to limiting the effects of the sun. We had made our minds up that shadecloth was the best solution and that is what we will do. It is good to have the advice and opinions of others who have tried different solutions to the problem.

Hi UIZ733,

The Shade Cloth I have on Cub Escape in the above photo was cut into two sections when I was at Fraser Island Back in July/Aug, Due to the strong wind coming in from the sea, I had both canvas ends of the annex attached so I needed a smaller shade cloth section.
I cut the large shade cloth into two sections 2.9 metre's and 2.1 meters, this has made it more flexable in how I use it.

Today I am adding velcro to where I cut the shade cloth in two pieces so I will be able to still use the whole shade cloth as in the pictire above or seperate it into 2 sections as needed.

I just got two outdoor connection brand 3m gazebo walls and modified one of them by cutting it into two pieces at the middle zip and adding Velcro on the new sides. These attach to the Velcro on the front and back wall panels.  The now three panels zip together to do the long side of the annexe and come with Velcro strips on the top top attach to the deluxe annexe.  Lots of flexibility, shade and waterproof for just over $90 with Velcro.  Will buy the 3 m mesh panel one later for more options.
