We've had our Evakool for 5 years fitted in our Australian Offroad Trailer. It seemed fine for ages not drawing much power and performing OK as a fridge freezer although the temperature distribution was uneven. With a 60 litre Engel in the Cruiser we started using it as 100% freezer for long trips. We did 3 trips of 6-9 months across the deserts and up to Cape York which tested the Evakool to the max. It wouldn't freeze in extreme hot temps no matter what we tried and started to draw too many amps from the twin 105AH AGMs. Evakool did a good deal to replace the whole unit with plates fitted all round. This fixed the freezer problem, it froze wonderfully, even kept the Magnum icecreams for the kids frozen! The last big trip to the Kimberleys it started cycling regularly. The Victron battery monitor shows it drawing 4-5 amps regularly, sucking our camper trailer batteries right down. Even with it pre-frozen for days before the trip and packed to the gunnels, the dial down to as low as could go and the outside ambient not too bad, it would cycle all night. Although Evakool could probably fix this and relate it to a dodgy thermostat or something we are going to replace it with a new 60 litre Engel platinum (if I can make it fit). I've always been more impressed with the sealing and solidity of the Engel, so have had enough of messing around with the Evakool. p.s. there is no question about the superb customer service that Evakool provide however I've lost confidence in the product in remote, harsh, dusty conditions for long periods.
