Home Waste Water Treatment (Taylex)
« on: December 21, 2016, 04:53:27 PM »
Hi,

We are looking at  options for our new build, on one and a half acres,  and traditional style trenches aren't suitable due to the ground we have.

Does anyone have a Taylex Wastewater home sewerage tank/setup? Our research so far has taken us to this particular brand, but not a lot of reviews really online, though what we found are mostly good!

The Taylex system looks good on paper, but would really appreciate opinions from actual users before we go much further into research. We realise there is ongoing cost's due to inspections, and can live with that!

 :D Thanks

We've got one... just on 3 years since ours was installed with no issues. I like it because ours pumps out via above ground sprinklers so I can move the irrigated area around the yard as it is needed. We were told that it's perfectly fine for using on any fruit and vegetables too (just rinse or peel first to be completely safe) as it gets treated with UV light and chlorine before it pumps out. Apparently the "waste" water is cleaner than our local creek. Our ongoing costs are only $230/year (from memory) and that covers 4x inspections and restock chlorine tabs in the system.

We have one of the early Taylex concrete ones, from 1999/2000, only problem as such we have had was burning out the submersible pump, but since changing the head unit no problem, the other issue we had was a power supply one.  We have had it pumped out once since being installed and it works well, does its job hassle free.
Cheers

We have had ours nearly 8 years, only issue was a blown capacitor when we had a blackout one time but that was fixed for nothing from memory.

We have a system similar ,Aqua Nova now no longer made. Its an Aerated type. Crystal clear water that comes out that feeds the trees. Never been an issue.

Thanks everyone,

Seems like we will probably look into the Taylex then!

Mardon,
Looked early this year at all the options. The most power effective read cheapest to run plus better Eco is the Fuji system. Brilliant and extremely low running, plus basic maintenance

We have a Biolytics (worm farm) system, as some would know they went bankrupt a while ago. And considering we had to do a complete rebuild on ours when it was only 3 years old, I won't be recommending them. Great idea, they just don't perform very well in the real world.

But, when debating if we should rebuild or replace, our pick of the new systems was the Fuji.
If (when) our Biolytics fails again we will most likely rip it out and go with this one.

We've been using an Envirocycle for about 13 years. Same principle as the Taylex brand, with a different internal design. I was originally going to install a Taylex, but got talked out of it by the plumber. He said the pumps we're a bit undersized (but that was 13 years ago, so I'd guess they're better now?). I've had to replace the air pump twice in its life and the sullage pump once in the envirocycle, so maybe the pump issue is just normal maintenance for any of the brands?

Check with your council on the local regs for the water discharge, as they will vary between councils. There will most likely be rules about how close it can be to any other water source, boundaries, walkways/paths etc.

Some councils will let you do a course to self-service your HSTP, we just went with a local service provider who turns up when it is due (quarterly) and does whatever he does and leaves a report in the mailbox.

They are a Bio system that rely on the bacteria to do it's job on your job, so you need to be a bit selective about what goes into your waste water from the house. No bleach or chlorine based cleaners or you will kill the bacteria in the system, and if your taking antibiotics for medication, throw a handful of blood & bone (or some sugar) down the loo help. And no excessive amount of milk down the drain.

Just out of curiosity how much are you looking at to have this type of system installed? I have an old trench style septic and we are on tank water. I have often thought I would like to be able to use the treated wastewater on the lawn/garden/trees, especially at the moment when we are incredibly dry.

We have a Biocycle system at our place (6 acre rural block), noting that we are not the original owners and it was in for 6 years before we bought. Ours pumps out to fixed sprinkler heads in the garden beds. Has worked well for the last 6 years, though there have been issues.

The pump out pump failed and had to be replaced 2 years ago and the air pump failed in early Nov.

Maintenance contract (4 services a year) $260. Other maintenance is individually costed and quoted.

I think all these systems probably are basically the same though.

Really not sure yet. Will have to wait now until the new year when our local installer goes back to work and I can arrange a proper onsite inspection and quote. We are on town water, and I guess most of these types of systems would be similar pricing to each other. At a total guess maybe in the ballpark of $15000? And yeah, having a section of the yard/garden irrigated will be a small bonus.
