Trakmaster Sturt X-Country

Anyone have any first hand experience with Trakmaster Caravans, particularly the above model or the Gibson ?
We've  been looking for a while for a hard-walled camper of sorts to get away from canvas and found a second hand Trakmaster in good nick.

I dont have one personally, but a good mate of mine who I have travelled extensivly with has had one (Sturt) for about 10 years. My impression is that they are "Top Shelf". My mate has not had a single gripe or issue with his, and has taken it everywhere I've been able to get into with My Conqueror. When we were on our last 4 week trip with some other friends, they were so impressed with the Trackmaster that they ordered one as soon as we got home from that trip.

I've seen first hand what the build quality of them is, and I have not seen anything else in the same catagory.

Similar to Spada - mate has one, (he used to be on here - DDR) and never had an issue...

Loves it and wishes he'd taken it to Fraser when we went but was scared to lose it getting bogged with the tides...

The only thing is its ****IN' H E A V Y... I mean towing with his GU is slow.



They are designed with a purpose.

Thanks guys. Well we have bitten the bullet and put down the deposit for a 2011 Trakmaster Sturt X-Country !! Very tidy and hasn't dome much off-road work by the look of things, jeez they are well-built and thought out hard-walled campers
The owners reckoned it's only done half a dozen trips since they had it made, although one of these was the Ann Beadall Hwy which they reckoned it handled easily.
In fact they've just upgraded to a Trakmaster Pilbara,so they must have been impressed with the brand.
Hopefully it gives us as much fun,enjoyment and trouble free touring as our Adventure camper has over the years

Don't worry h e now tows it behind his Iveco Daily 4x4. 

Don and his wife tour with a trakmaster and have taken there's just about all over Australia on all the iconic offroad routes.

To me Don provides absolutely no bull feed back. Biggest issue appears to be dust ingress.

Thanks for the link Chris,will have to wait and see about the dust issues ! And fortunately ours comes with an in-built 80 litre Waeco fridge and not a 3 way

I've done about 12,000km's of outback travelling with our friends with their Sturt, and other than a little bit of dust near the door vent, they have not had any problems. The door vent is inline with the step recess in the floor, and any dust seems to settle there. It wouldn't be hard to put a canvas flap that can Velcro or press stud on to cover the vents if you needed. Their's is fitted with a scupper flap (a little pop up air intake flap) in the roof that is designed to create positive air pressure inside that they always open when travelling on dirt road, and it seems to do it's job.

A couple of years ago he replaced the mattress with a new inner spring mattress. Because the bed is a non-standard size, he had one custom made by MakingMatresses. He said it was a bastard of a job getting the old one out and the new one in through the door. Obviously the mattress must go in through the roof during construction.
