Jayco - Hole/Split in roof

My mate is looking at a Jayco camper and has sent this image of a split/hole in roof. Looks like it's been patched.

Thoughts?

Could it be the result of rotted internal frame ? or maybe an impact internal / external .. any evidence of it having roof racks near there ? . Does look like a rot type repair though
Would say if the roof feels / looks solid enough you could always put a positive preasure vent there and mount the airfilter to cover that area ..
More pics and a location of it in the length / width of the roof might help a bit more though ..
Find the cost of roof replacement / rebuild and offer them a price that reflects the work thats going to be needed to replace / fix ..
Is he handy on the tools or has mates that are that would work for beer .
EDIT : I'd also be looking at the cupboards / flooring etc in that area too ..

It does seem cheap for what it is and I guess that's the concern and may be the reason it's under priced. The fella selling it is playing dumb reckons he brought it for his daughter and she has never had any problems.

My mate is very handy, used to be a builder.

I would be very wary of any roof damage
Just had a roof replacement done and they are almost $4000 plus installation

Front of the van roof and right in the middle by the curtain ruffle for the front bed? If it is it's not uncommon with ally sheeted rooves and the middle joint leaking once the sealant breaks down with age and road speed and rain find it under pressure. The ceiling lining is only thin customwood panel under the pretty white coating and it can quickly turn to mush if you don't deal with the sealant problem.

Yep if its the same as mine (2005 model) the ceiling is pretty thin ply with a white paper finish on it that does not like getting wet.  First thing is to fix the leak and then you can either remove and replace the ceiling or just sheet over the top of the old ceiling.  I sheeted over the top of mine but did remove enough of the damaged section to check the roof structure, there was no real rot but the staples holding the timber together had rusted through in some points.  If the ceiling is till flat the structure should be ok but if it is starting to sag in the middle there maybe more than cosmetic issues.

If it ends up needing re-sheeting, poly-ply does a good job. It's 3mm ply with a gloss white plastic face.
