Advice for extra panel/rooms for camper trailer.
« on: December 05, 2015, 03:44:19 PM »
Hi all,
My husband and myself are looking to buy a camper trailer off my parents as we would like to start getting the family out and about. My parents say they have an Oztrail 9 and believe it comes with an annex but no extra walls/rooms. So as we have two kids and two dogs (1 the size of a small pony) we are wanting to add at least an extra room. Would love any advice on where we could purchase something like this from and if the different models need a particular setup.
We are very new to this so any advice would be great!
Thanks in advance   ;D

Firstly, welcome to myswag.  Hope you enjoy your time on here.

If it is an Oztrail, talk to them.  Their trailer tents are used by a number of manufacturers so I presume you should be able to source a set of walls for your annex fairly easily.

Happy camping

Extra rooms are great if you're staying in one place for a few days or more. If you are on the go, it's a pita.
Explore minimal set set up times and down times, makes life a lot more enjoyable.

Thanks guys!
Have emailed Oztrail so should hopefully get some feedback from them.
Definitely will keep in mind about minimal setup as don't want to be messing around if it's only an over-nighter but will need the extra room for anything longer. Our big dog isn't so good at being a dog and isn't a fan of bugs so needs some cover to hide out in 😂

We grabbed an Oztent 5 for when Ryan wants to bring some mates. Found it more user friendly than the swags.

For ideas on adding rooms to your camper I suggest you check out the Top Gear episode where Richard Hammond built a camper with plenty of extra rooms. Seriously... >:D

I presume it can be done with Oztrail, but when we ordered our Camper Trailer we also bought all the walls to enclose the annex plus a kids room which attaches to the drawbar side of the trailer. So in short it gives another room the same size as your tent area.

Pros of the kids room is it gives heaps of room for everyone to spread out especially on those days when the weather isn’t that great. When we camp for 10 to 14 days we love the extra room, but I refuse to put it on unless we are camping a minimum of 4 nights.

Cons to the kids room is it adds another 40 minutes to the set up/pull down time and the extra canvas/pols/ropes isn’t light

We just bought a sunroom for our oztrail outer ridge camper which we bought about 3 years ago. Turns out the newer model was basically the same dimensions, so the sunroom fitted. Just emailed Oztrail and conformed it with them, they were very helpful.
We've swapped from the camper to a van yay! :)

Thanks everyone.
I did contact Oztrail and they told me that they have discontinued the camper 9 so no longer have any extra rooms. They also said that none of the other rooms were compatible with it so I should try looking online for second hand parts etc.
Have resorted to contacting canvas manufacturers to get a quote on having something made up.
