Just watched it on TV, lots of wind, no rain, dry undergrowth = bad result. They still don't know what ignited it...

It is going to be a bad fire season.

Burnt my mates fence, his kids cubby and his winter firewood pile but thankfully left his house. He isn't on acreage but a new sub division.  He couldn't get back to the town but had to stay at work whilst his wife and 4 kids went to the school and sat the fire out there with no phone connection to say that they were safe. Bowling club opposite the school was lost so being in the centre of the town wasn't that safe either!
Always brings it home to you when you know the people involved.

We were on a strike team to Pinery, arrived just as the wind change hit, sending the fire northerly back through the township. It was a hectic few hours doing asset protection there and across towards hamley bridge. The fire behaviour was extreme to say the least. Seeing the damage is heartbreaking, the image of burnt sheep standing in a paddock around the dead ones is stuck in my head now. I just hope there are no more deaths... it's going to be a long fire season.

Stay safe everyone. We have guys working at Kupunda and they had to evacuate to the footy oval.

Yep, I suspect that there will be a big increase in depression etc in those areas in the next few months. The stress for lots of people is only just starting. I hope they all get the help they need to deal with it.
