Calling on advice from owners of 4x4 awnings

I got my fathers day present, a 2.5 X 3 meter awning and a tent to suite.  This is my first awning and I am sure a few of you veterans can point me in the right direction with some advice. Basically I fitted the awning and tent yesterday without any problems.

The awning came with a couple of basic tie ropes but I reckon I will need a couple more especially with the tent fitted.

My question is that there are no obvious point to tie the rope to.  I looped the ropes over the awning but I am sure there are better ways to do this. 

After some advice as to how you guys do it or what mods such as drilling in to the aluminium or any other solutions that I have missed.

My ARB awning has a couple of holes drilled into the extrusion. 1 hole is for the roof pole, the other is for the rope.

Cheers D4D, I have one hole each side for the side pole but there are no obvious spots for something to tie down a rope.  Not sure if I should drill and extra hole or made a point that slides in to the sail track area.

My Oztrail awning came with holes in the aluminium cross bar that the ropes are attached to and tuck neatly in when rolled up.
Another tip is to get some big arse sand pegs if your planning on using it at the beach, those tiny metal ones that are supplied are just hopeless.

Did this with my Ironman Awning....and it may help you out.

Drill a 1/4" hole in corner of alloy....grab some 6mm synthetic rope......cut about 14" long and melt ends.......tie a thumb knot or Fishermans bend in the end and pass though the 1/4" hole and tie another thumb or Fishermans bend close to the hole, then leave the tail attached to the awning. You can now attach a conventional tent rope with the loop end to the tail from your awning using a Sheet Bend knot.

I have holes in my ARB awning for rope. I still wasnt happy with the holes due to being a pain in the ass to thread the rope through the hole every time and if I was to leave the rope permanently attached, its a pita to roll up.
I now use a 4mm thick dog clip that the rope is permanently attached to. Just clip on and off onto awning, best mod ever.

My Supa Peg awning doesn't require ropes, the pole footing has 2 holes in it which you can put tent pegs through into the ground. Most times I don't bother unless it is windy.
