Thinking About the Next Level

Currently own a 2002 Jayco Finch Outback. They have the best chassis ever built apparently. Have spent a few $$$$ on it on mods but due to business commitments we have not used it in 4 months and can't see us using it for atleast another 4 months. I was preparing it for cold winter trips and a 5 week trip on the GRR via the Tanami but that was cancelled.
Now I'm thinking about selling her and buying something where I just have to open the door and maybe raise a roof 300mm (not a jayco penguin type). I can see the bed ends being another chore I could do without.

Any recommendations on a 1000kg - 1500kg "loaded" off road camper thats easy to set up (open the door and raise roof only) in the $15k - $20k range with a double bed that either of us can get out of like a normal bed. Don't really care how old they are, as long as they're strong and robust.

I have plenty of time to wait for the right one and same goes with selling the Finch for the right price.

Why buy something that is just bigger heavier, costs more, takes up more space in your yard,  when by your owns words, you don't have time to use it?  ???

Maybe because like us ,we also had a jayco finch that also wasn't being used as much as it should have due to either no time, too cold, or being the packed height that the camper was it became a great storage shelf for stuff to be stored on top of the camper roof making it a chore to get it out of the shed.
We bit the bullet, sold the camper and bought a 12ft 6" jayco expanda outback. It has since meant  that we are now keen to get out and about as it is easy to set up, warm and is too high to store crap on the roof making it easy to get out of the shed.
Cruiser91 the 12ft expanda if you can find one tick most of the boxes, small, weights about 1300kg just open door and pop roof , only thing is the single double bed requires setting up [30seconds] and one person gets to be "trapped" in like your finch. We picked our 2010 up for $22000

I wasn't having a go mate, was just asking him a question, give him something to think about, but each to there own.

sorry oldmate if you misunderstood my response and though that I though that you were having a dig at cruiser91 that wasn't my intention.
I was just offering a perspective that you can get a new enthusiasm for getting out and about by purchasing a new camper like we have experienced, more so now that we just also updated the tow tug.

Fair question.

We are spare of the moment people when we comes to time off these days, when that opportunity comes, it's unexpected and would like something that can be set up in minimal time as this time is precious. We deal with people every day and getting away to secluded spots is gold for us even if it is just over night.
I guess convenience comes at a cost, but still at a budget.
The outback finch is around 1100kgs loaded, 5.5m long and sits around 2m high when towing, so a little bigger should be fine.

Thanks for the reply rag's. Thought about the Expander but would like to be able to get out of the bed either side.

Thought about a early 2000's modded offroad Starcraft? but they're getting close to the 2t mark.
