On the road into Bribie Island there is a bait shop on the left hand side that sells beach permits, plus go can get some fresh worms at the same time for some bait.
Quick question Beachman.
Do you get beach worms on the Eastern Beach? Probably a bit difficult if the traffic's as bad as mentioned!

That looks awesome!!!

Quick question - where do I get permits from? I assume I will need a fishing permit and also a beach driving permit. Internet or local store?

Thanks.

4wd permit, either online at http://parks.nprsr.qld.gov.au/permits/;jsessionid=ggTOtKUISRjgAzeSQU3u3I8Jf-NL_CgmZ6VvXZ7zAZTEzoqohGj1!-890227416
Or at the gait shop at Ningi on bribie road.

Don't need a fishing permit for qld beaches yet....

Hi Steve, I’m hopeless at worming but one of my mates normally catches a few worms in front of the camping areas on the Eastern beach and Pippies are extremely rare.

Thanks mate!
Back in the 50's & 60's  my grandparents lived at Woorim & so I got to see & do a fair bit of fishing there. I didn't hear the term "Pipi" until the late 60's, early 70's as the term "Eugarie" was used.
We would all head down at the right tide & do the eugarie twist to supply bait to my father & grandfather. The eugaries were plentiful then, as were the fish. I can't remember a time when my grandfather came home empty handed. Nor can I remember anyone worming ???
(My grandfather was one of reclusive artist Ian Fairweathers very few friends.)

Thanks everyone for their help. I have been slack and not updated.

We ended up going to Bribie - at the last minute Hubby ended up having to work on the Friday so we did not get away as early as we wanted. We left the boat at home due to the unexpected change but lucky enough a guy hubby works with was taking his down on the Saturday and invited us to join them for a fish.

The park itself is at a great spot, straight across the road from the beach. Unfortunately the park is not for me. I have stayed in a couple now since we had the van but this is the first 'city' park we have been to. It was extremely packed, we had been told there would be room on the site for the boat also but their was hardly any room for the van and ute let alone a boat. The vans were literally right against each other, there was even a van parked lengthways at out back so the three vans formed a U. This also meant we had a view of vans and the toilet block only.

We were  directly across from the amenities block which was handy except for all the grey nomads coming home from the bowls club at all hours. Each group stopped for a pit stop and their friends chatted outside our van while waiting. This made fro some very disrupted night. lol

Hubby, son and I got to go fishing on the boat which was quite an adventure, until November last year I had never been on a boat at all except when I was 10 whale watching. I freely admit I am a little hooked. (No pun intended.) Unfortunately not much was biting and at lunch the little fella and I left hubby to it. They went further out for the rest of the day.

The next day hubby went out and they went over to Morton which was pretty exciting for him. The little one and I explored Bribie. The first beach we went to had gooey 'things' all over it, hundreds of them, I was not sure if they were stingers or not so didn't risk it, off we went again. My boy really wanted to go swimming but it was ssssssoooooo cold. Excitingly enough, we SAW DOLPHINS. Yah, that was pretty cool. After cooking lunch, we had literally dropped a line when hubby rang to say they were back. We tried fishing near a park and then just on dark the three of us tried fishing off the wall. No luck but when there are about 30 people fishing in a small area I didn't expect much to happen.

The next day we scrambled around packing up and then succumbed to the begging of a 7yo who so much wanted to swim. We headed over to the other side of the island and let him swim in the surf. He loved it. We ended up leaving there when we should have been getting home. Ooops.

All in all, it was heaps of fun but we will keep looking for another spot. Hervey bay is the next venture I think. We probably wont get a chance to even think about it until after Christmas but I can't wait.

Hi Rocknj

Thanks for the lovely post...    It was a great read...

I grew up on Bribie (Woorim) - spent all my school holidays there at least.    and reading about your 7yo's and your family adventures; had all the memories flooding back...

You are very welcome, I was worried the post would come off as too negative. I am glad it brought back positive memories for you.

No need to apologise or feel bad in relation to your post as you gave your opinion and everyone is entitled to that. I love my trips to Bribie camping up the beach, but I guarantee if I visited Bribie and stayed in a Caravan park (doesn’t matter which one) I Guarantee I would also being giving an average review on my trip.

I know I’m not a Caravan Person just like some of my mates cringe at the thought of camping somewhere without Showers/Plumbed toilets and power for their TV.

Least you got out and experienced somewhere new.

I know that caravan park you stayed at...   Have watched it evolve devolve since the 1960's....    Its even been on more than one current affairs show on TV ... re: the one foot in the gravers being angst over Council charges and machinations....
