Getting Drinking water between S.A and Uluru

Hi, just after advice on where we can fill our drinking water supplies as we travel up through the centre. Is it hard to find ? I do carry a BEST water filter with me at all times

     I have never been refused water when buying fuel.
Sometimes offered rain water to put in a smaller container.

Port Augusta then Kulgera Road House, Erldunda Roadhouse, Coober Pedy Servo or Caravan Park (Big 4 Stuart Ranges),  and Caravan Park at Yulara.
All have town water, Some places require payment some don't.

 Coober pedy was 20c for 40L as its from desalination so expensive to make.
I filled @ Yulara C'van park for free as we were staying there.
P.s. check of they're running the pay 3 stay 4 deal(makes 40 a night into 30) and spend the extra on a yearly pass at Uluru as it gives you the extra time out there to finish all the walks and soak up the scenery.

We fill our tanks with town water in Melbourne and carry a couple of extra jerry cans too then because we generally do the trip to Kings Canyon area in the space of about 3 days we don't need to fill anything until we get there.  Can top up if required at Coober Pedy (cost) but because everywhere north of Port Augusta is bore water (of differing quality) we tend to not fill.  We drink the water at the Station (bore water from 150metres down) but we know that it is of good quality.  Other than that we will purchase drinking water if required.  Renner Springs north of Alice had good soft water on our last trip through there and we asked if we could fill...then made a donation to the RFDS for the privilege.... we tend to be careful where we fill.
When I get back we empty and flush the tanks on the camper to get rid of any remaining top up water

Curtin Springs on the Lasseter Hwy has drinking water. Cant remember how much to fill the vans tanks, but water was ok for drinking. I always use B.E.S.T. filter.

i always laugh when people mention the price of getting water in Coober Pedy, considering how much shops in big cities sell the bottled stuff for these days.

Not everyone is aware that when you set up camp in a Coober Pedy caravan park and roll out your hose there wont be any tap for it. Kind of a PITA if you didn't know to fill up first.....@ 20c per 40L...before setting up.
Call it a Community service announcement.

Local businesses have to pay more for water in Coober Pedy then the tourists do...it was a sore point for one local business owner I was talking to.

Some good info here.
Were doing mt gambier to darwin in july.
Info centers have been the main point of call for water.
They usually have tanks or can direct you in the right direction..

Paying for water ... I was in the WA Goldfields at easter and read some history there about the battle to find water for thirsty miners.

Condensing, or distilling,   water  from the  salty lakes was a good moneymaker for those who could not find gold with prices up to five shillings a gallon.

And it wasn't the best to drink, one prospector describing it as having "...a very insipid taste, resembling boiled water with a dash of galvanised iron and several other unrecognisable substances including smoke."

They were a different breed in those days.

Woomera also has a tap at the back of the road house that has potable water
