Mate we bought a 1999 Outback (offroad version) for very little money and spent almost as much again fitting solar, battery and electrics, LEDs, new kitchen, new mattress, carpet, drawers, bike racks - in fact everything you could want (the unit was basic but in good condition). Still no more expensive than the cheap imports but it has a reputation that they will never match. OK, the design hasn't been altered very much over 25 years but that kinda proves how good it was in the first place. Look around - you'll get a similar deal easier than you think - and it's not much work to end up with a near-perfect performer. Even the guys who can afford $30,000 brand new units salivate over what mods they are going to do!
