Ok ohh learned ones,  the question I have of these fridge bags is do they Realy add that much insulation and  drop the cycling rate of the fridge ?  Or would just shading the fridge acheive the same or better results ? and save potentialy $180 out of the pocket ?.
does  anyone know of or have done a test of that ? or are they purely a padded transit bag to guard against scuff damage ..
 It seems they get pushed by some retailers as extra insulation and a must have [ why isnt the fridge by itself good enough ? ] and just a transit protection bag by others .

Doesn't the fridge transfer heat via the external surface/body? Or is that some models? (or none. Am I just making that up ??? )

Might be an interesting read Bird ... Did do a search but came up with zilch .. gotta link ?... Personaly think I'll stick with shade and airflow around the fridge .. though Olmate of mine thinks the bag would be the better allround option ..

I run 2 x 40L Engels and I think the bags might help with fridges kept in a locked car in the middle of summer, but apart from that I personally think they are just transit protectors.

Mine were thrown in for free when buying the fridges, but considering my bags are covered in dust and stains I’m glad I have them.

My bag on our ARB was also free when I purchased, so I use it.  Does it work for insulation ? Buggered if I know, but it does tend to work well as a transit bag. ;D

My Engals sit in transit bags all the time . lf them work good lf its crap good . Might be the same as seat covers or is that another topic  ???  Sheep skin or Terry towelling  ???  Oppps l did it again  :cheers:

My Engel is also permanently in a transit bag. Certainly helps protect the unit. As it came free when I bought the unit I am happy to keep using it. Not sure about fridge cycles though.

Apparently it makes a big difference to the efficiency of 3 way fridges, particularly when running on 12V.

Can't see why it wouldn't also help with compressor fridges.

Most portable fridges seem to have less than ideal wall thickness for adequate insulation AFAICS. An insulating bag can only improve that.

Always feels hot between fridge and bag.  Have wondered at times if no bag is better.  Doesn't seem to affect performance that I have noticed.
My main gripe is Evakool had their gumby hat on when designing the bag for the 60l RV models. The lid is actually hinged on the long side , but the bag zips to suit a lid hinged to the short side. This is amazingly annoying, especially in a packed car.

Some would (rightly) say this bag thing is a tragic rip off...

Why the freak do some of the manufactures suggest (or implore) that you use a bag ??

Why do these ones NOT need any padding??

I have a bag on my Waeco CFX50, but only because it came with the fridge...

I think it it more important to keep the fridge in a cooler environment (shade) and only open it when you need to.

In my opinion they are an overpriced transit bag.  Especially the zips on the Engel bags, the zips fail in next to no time.

The bag my cheap Companion brand fridge came with is as thick as tissue paper and wouldn't insulate Shit. Good for protecting the fridge but that's about it. Still happy with it though. Chilled half a carton from room temp to minus 3 in roughly 2hrs at our sons christening today

My Autofridge can't use a bag, as the eutectic panels need to be able to dissipate heat.
The Bushranger fridge lives in its insulated bag in the back of Brony's Discovery.

Hi All,

I have a transit bag on the Engel; mainly because it was included with the sale.

However I have noticed that the walls of the fridge are cold with the bag on. I'd rather have some of this coldness trapped by the bag rather than released to atmosphere.

Maybe it does make a difference but I don't think it would be significant. And definitely not worth the asking price for some of these bags.
