TJM sold to Aeroklas
« on: February 27, 2015, 05:33:27 PM »
Big news this week that TJM has been sold to Aeroklas.

Aeroklas, which makes a range of products for utes and SUVs, bought TJM for $22.2 million.

The marketing manager for Aeroklas, Damien Calello said that it would enable Aeroklas to get more of their product into TJM stores. The two companies plan to remain separate.

In Australia Aeroklas has done well in the OEM space and the TJM acquisition will give it increased reach into the aftermarket segment.

TJM currently has 58 stores in Australia and operations in the US and China. The HQ in Geebung, QLD performs small run manufacturing and R+D. In 2014 TJM recorded a $3.8 million loss on revenue of $41.4 million.

Not surprised TJM lost that much. Their bar work that I bought (sliders, brush bars, bullbar) did not fit very well at all and after 3 years the powder coating is lifting / peeling off allowing rust  >:(  >:(  >:(  Worst of all, the bullbar had to be modified to fit (out came the grinder) even though they insisted it was the correct bar for the GU  ??? when even the distributor agreed it was wrong! Instead of being able to fit it myself, I had to pay the distributor to modify and install it as TJM said they would not refund the bar as it was "fit for purpose". Now its a bitch to pull out the winch for servicing.

Needless to say it has turned me off from buying anything from TJM again!

All the best of luck to Aeroklas. Maybe they will turn TJM into a better company with better service and products.

I wonder if that means a complete name change..? would they want to kick off in a market with a name that will take some time to acknowledge/understand to be associated with 4WD etc.....

ARB market cap is around AUD940M, a different league to TJM.

As an ex TJM employee, CMI really screwed them up after Steve and Lloyd sold to them, they should have kept the turf business that they had, made more money, Cliff Jones took that.

TJM also own no stores, they are all privately owned unlike ARB which now own a good majority - the TJM product range makes up only a small percentage of the total store sales.

Such a great brand with huge potential - just needs the right backer and Aeroklas could be just right for that.

I used to service the buildings/warehouses they had at geebung and speaking to a few guys about 6 months ago  I'm not surprised they sold out a lot of them seemed unhappy with just making the prototype product there and then sending it off to china to be mass produced. That was enough for me to stop looking at their products all together

So, maybe that's why my bulbar wouldn't fit! Probably put the wrong labels on the bar and box's or put in the wrong mounts :-[

I remember going to a local 4wd day and going around watching the different displays and the TJM boys did a winching demo.  I then laughed to myself as I watched four or five of them standing around the bullbar each trying to peer into the one inch x six inch slot on the top of the bullbar to try and see why the cable was not spooling back on.  I really felt like going over and asking if they had identified the design fault yet.  I have never been a great fan of TJM's R&D.  They need to get out and use the gear not just look at a CAD and say good job.
Cheers

Like TJM, if they are bleeding, they're only worth whatever a company wants to pay...or whatever they are prepared to sell for !!
