Roof top tent bag replacement
« on: June 16, 2018, 12:19:10 PM »
So my tent bag on arb Simpson 3 rooftop tent is starting to break down along the zips, rang up arb for a replacement and there asking $360 for a bag, quick eBay search and found a different brand that says it fits. So I reckon I will go the eBay one at that price. Anyone else had to change bags and what ones did you choose? Also might be worth a trip to someone that might just be able to replace the zips

It’s missing a few teeth on the zips and that’s what’s making it hard

hi Brodie
I used to have a little viper (   http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=42568.msg743079#msg743079   ) and after a big outback trip the zip crapped out too. There was no brand name on the tent so I just ordered a cover off eBay that was the same size and it was fine for another 12 months.
Sorry can't be more help

Ok thanks guys, yeah a photo would be great for a $120 probley the easiest option, just can’t justify the $360 to say arb and probley the same bag anyway

You might be able to get a local canvas guy to replace the zip if that's all that it stuffed.

What he said.
If the cover isn't torn, then not much to be gained by replacing that. The zip on the cover can be cut away and a new one sewn on. The zip 1/2 that slides into the sail track around the floor, just slide that out and take it along with the cover and they can sew a new zip onto that 1/2 as well.

The most time consuming bit would probably be unpicking the old one, it's not hard, just a little time consuming, you could volunteer to do this bit yourself and should save some $$$.

No it’s a no name one imported from South Africa about 7-8 years ago. But there are only 2 sizes, everyone copies one of the others and the zipper and cover have enough room for slight tolerance imperfections. By the way, what part of the zipper is damaged? Normally it’s the vinyl that deteriorates. I still have the bottom half of the zipper that connects to the tent base, I think that is the part with the zipper mech and just slides in and out of the frame. Free to a good home if it helps
