Disclaimer---I SELL SIMILAR PRODUCTS. ;D

The only Issue found before I had my business was claiming warranty from various locations, IE- most major companies  have authorised distributor networks , these guys are not within that ..they are very good with warranty stuff from what I have heard but you cant simply take it to another shop or seller to have your warranty processed.

If you bought your charger at Auto barn in Melbourne and were on holidays at Bribie I could sort your warranty issues if you had a receipt. If you bought it on ebay then I cant. As the BNE warehouse will not accept it.

Projecta /redarc/ctek are all the same now ..if the item was purchased on ebay it must go back to the seller or directly to the parent company .. If purchased through approved re-sellers then other re-sellers can process the warranties.

Take my comments with a grain of salt or whatever but I just went through a long process for the folding solar panels with projecta  in order to guarantee I could support my customers anywhere in Australia.

Just mentioning it , not to pinch sales as I am happy enough with my trade levels but would hate for a member to be caught out not knowing. For many things it does not matter much but with larger elec items that could fail I would make sure to buy from a auth distributor so you have nationwide warranty.

but they are def one of the better on-line sellers that's for sure ;D ;D

 Jet ;D

Very good point, I did have this exact issue with a Ctek Charger I bought from them, had to send it back then the distributor sent me a new one directly. Was not really an issue for me but I hear what you are saying.

Out of interest and slightly OT, but what happens if an authorised distributor sells stock on ebay? For example Jet what if you sold me some panels on eBay, I am in Perth and have a problem? Surely the channel the sale comes through should not make a difference, after all its a business selling a product.

I recently purchased a projecta 15amp 7 stage battery charger of ebay through AUTOELECAU (Bairnsdale electrical).  It was close to the best price (if not the best) i could get anywhere so ordered one and it was delivered a few days later.

His prices are better than my mate at OL could buy them for

Plenty of good threads on here, but there was an interesting one about bad feedback disappearing overnight for him

Under the Australian Consumer Law it is the business who has to offer and honour a gurantee that the product willl do what it is intended to  do regardless of any warranties the manufacturer.

I have used them several times and their prices are great. My only complaint is that they sometimes list their products on Ebay when they don't have them in stock. I bought a battery charger off them last year where this happened. There was no issue in getting a refund from them, it was just annoying.

I live 20 mins away from them and hear nothing but bad reports and over priced goods. Did not know they had an ebay store.
Will have to check it out.

Small point regarding having to have a receipt...you'd think in this day and age with computers, a receipt would be "in the system" so to speak...

I normally keep a receipt if it is over approx $100, but I know plenty of people who don't keep one at all..

I bought a brake controller from them in January and the eBay price was $20 less including free postage than the store price. They matched the eBay price when pointed it out. Worth checking before buying in the store.

I believe someone needs a hug!!  Seriously who cares.  Love your comment Lost.  I clicked and read the story etc. etc. and something doesn't add up.  One bit says about Peter Curtis and the next about Peter Francis?  Anyway like I said I've had zero issues and fantastic customer service and until otherwise I will use and recommend them every time.

And if you look at Autoelecau's Feedback there are 9 negative feedbacks in the last 12 months still there so I don't know what the other moron is going on about. Oh and not one of them either made sense or would stop me buying anyway.  I believe negative feedback can be removed upon request if it is proved to be unjustified.

In the last couple of years my purchases from autoelecau include

3 x ctek battery chargers ( one in the post now)
Length of 6B&S cable
3 x 30m rolls twin cable ( one in the post now)
2x 6mm anderson plug extension leads
Brake controller
trailer plug
Air compressor
Tyre repair kit.....

All items were on separate orders and the best online price I could find.
Not a single problem ( to date) so I think a few other sellers could take a leaf out of their book.

Surely the channel the sale comes through should not make a difference, after all its a business selling a product.

Bmo,

If i sold products on ebay I would no longer be an authorised distributor ;D ;D,

My business holds an account with the parent company, so your purchase can be traced through me back though the nat dist network . I have been able to rectify issues within 24hrs at locations that will amaze you. Because of this ability to lean on the nat dist network. Now profit margins are almost non existant when trying to match ebay but at least I sleep well at night and dont draed the phone ringing from Alice springs or geralton.

ebay sellers obtain their stock through other channels (no names) but that other channel is so large that the manufacture can not live without their orders so it is a catch 22.I wont bore you or create unfounded speculation as to how these companies get hold of the products to sell at these prices online ..but suffice to say there has been a court ruling that says they are allowed to so.. end story on that ;D ;D.

However same same the manufacturer must still warrant their product no matter where bought, however you must send it back to place of purchase, this is the part I don't like as that can be a 2 week turn around at best when on the road. As you send back to ebay seller, who returns it to the place that supplied them, then that company sends it back to parent company, 9 times out of 10 the middle mob just replace as they have very large stock volumes. and then ship back to parent/manufacturer at a later date.  Or even the ebay seller will send you a new one and wait for thier stock credit later. Which is what these guys seem to do which is good.

If you buy a panel from me and it plays up in WA you call me I call the WA rep find the nearest authorised stockist to your location and I send you there. I would hate to be asking my customers to ship a charger or panels back to me from WA or NT , whilst on a trip, my prices are close to ebay $20ish more but , I have saved customers that many times over in postage costs and time lost without their item.

Let me be clear this is not an attempt to discredit any other business it just comes down to business models, and so long as the purchaser is aware of the ins and outs then all good, I supply components as part of an overall system design with outback travel in mind, as well as building in redundancy plans for component failure I also look at replacement time frames and the like, so for me and my particular business model on-line trading does not work as the loss of the support network is not worth the $20 saving to most of my customers.

that said not everyone who buys elec equip will travel far afield so the loss of this support system may not be as important as the $20 saving   ;D ;D.

So its horses for courses and eyes wide open  ;D ;D ;D

As I said still one of the better traders under that business model, but your postage costs will push the price sky high anyway if you are in outback and then having to buy another item to get you through can pretty quickly make that $20 saving seem like a bad call.

Hope that came across as impartial as I really don't want to be poking sticks at others esp ones who are doing it better than others on-line.

Awesome response Jet, It is very clear you are not out to slag anyone off.

Not a dig at you, but the constant negativity by businesses towards online sales is very disappointing. If an authorised reseller like you wants to sell online what's the problem? Sure you may not be able to match the price of those who have sourced the products in other ways, but why does the sales channel make a difference? To me buying online is about being able to get what I want without having to drive around 10 stores to find it, not just about price.

I do however hear what you are saying about fixing issues, for me with my CTEK it is really just a maintenance charger when I am home, so no biggy (however AutoElec where very good and I got it back quick) but something more critical I see what you mean.

Interestingly, Polaris must impose the same restrictions upon Autoelec that you have upon you. I was interested in the Polaris HUD unit, noticed that Bairsndale Electrics is a distributor, I emailed them and they basically said they cant even tell me anything about it or pricing etc, because they can only sell it from their store (I am in WA, not really around the corner) Seems crazy to me.

Asked a question the other night at 11pm, got a reply within 10 mins.. but that's not the first time they have replied at that time of night!
Today asked a question about a Replay XD1080 camera they have up, and again got a reply almost straight away! Now to find the $ for it before they sell their last one :(

About a month ago I bought a bullbar mounted LED combination park, indicator, DR light. Turned up in about 1/2 the time it was supposed to take. Stupid me didn't realise they weren't sold as a pair. :-[
So order another. It seemed to take a while to turn up and I started getting worried Autoelecau might of been stooging me since the lights seemed to double in price the day after I ordered.

Not to worry. He emailed me the day before I had planned to contact him and said he had not received notification that my light had arrived and had sent another, which turned up about 2 days later.
