You can change colours. We went fm terracotta to grey. Ask what brand, type of paint. Cheap quotes will use cheap paint. The tiles need to be pressure cleaned, tiles primed and then painted with paint specific to roofs with solar protection.  Ask about warranty. Ask about replacing cocked tiles, reselling mortar on ridges.

Anyone got proof it will last more than 10 years?   After watching my neighbours peel and now looking like it had never been done, I would want to be convinced the process had improved a lot.

You can get a proper roof guy to check and fix any broken tiles and make sure is all ship shape.

My roofer once told me that if we ever thought of painting the tiles, to have a talk to him first about just replacing as it gives a better result.

We had our tiled roof painted on our first house in Sydney. It had disgusting brown tiles on the roof and we went with a terracotta colour. It had been on the house for about 12 years when we sold the house and it still looked fantastic and just as good as when it was first done.
I am working away from home at the moment and probably won't have any pics of the old house. I will try and post up some before and after pics of our current house to show you.

Be very careful there are so many cowboys in this industry the two large companys in Melbourne don't as a rule employ roof tilers but charge excessively for untrained unskilled workers.
And the small stand alone guys are hit and miss when it comes to quality
when it comes to price $15 a ridge cap for rebed and point is about right (anyone that uses the word skim should not be considered) and the whole job should cost between $3000 and $4000 for a standard single storey house consider a reroof if your tiles are soft or brittle.
And lastly a respray is only cosmetic and is paint, Paint will last between 7 and 15 years depending on many factors once you paint your roof you are committing to more painting down the track
undecided

What sort of tiles are on the house that need resealing?...terracotta tiles can sometimes break down after a while and you're probably better off replacing the roof then resealing them. When we reno'd my brothers house we pulled the old terracotta tiles off and replaced with tin (mainly because he wanted a tin roof and we had to remove half the roof anyhow to do the reno), we couldn't give the old terracotta tiles away as they had broken down and become a bit crumbly with old age

OK. I rang a friend (old neighbor) to check out the roof on our old house in Sydney.  Verdict is she said it is a little bit difficult to tell as the paint looks fine but the roof could use a good pressure clean as it is pretty mouldy.  The roof was painted in 1996, so around 18 years ago. I do remember the new owners asking when we had the roof done as they though it had been done prior to selling not 12 years previously.

We did it again to our house up here in Cairns just under two years ago.  This is a pic of the terracotta colour, the tiles were really porous, absorbed moisture and were really mouldy.

This is the colour after pressure cleaning

After paint

We ended up painting the gutters and fascias a very dark grey/black as they used to be cream.  Painted the roller door Grey, it used to be cream.  We also did the driveway as it used to be terracotta with a black fleck through it now its grey with a black fleck through it. I reckon it took 10 years off the look of our house. I have no regrets and I reckon it has been a good investment.

What dan said. In particular if the ridge caps are not sound and pointed with modern flexible bedding and final coat then they have to be removed and redone as well as replacing any broken or chipped tiles and don't forget a dozen spares to be painted at the same time for the obvious.

Best if you get up on the roof with a spray marker can and spot the ones including any ridge caps (it pays to have some spares too) you want replacing and source them and the spares from the tile recyclers beforehand.

Do your homework with the paint selection (there are primer and top coat systems) but be aware you're only painting them largely for cosmetic reasons and outdoor acrylics like Wattyl Solargard are quite suitable, but the finish and longevity will greatly depend on the attention to cleanliness with the pressure cleaning. You want to look for a self-employed tradey who does the ridge capping and the cleaning and painting all in one and ask for references to their work.
