Instant gas water heater units. Storage?
« on: March 18, 2015, 12:33:24 PM »
Hi guys. I would like some ideas as to where people store their instant gas water heaters. I had mine mounted on the outside of the front tool box with a bag over it for travel. Issue is that when we are set up at camp I had to place a tarp over the while area to project the unit from rain.

Is there a better way?

Jason

I have put a 90° PVC piece on the top outlet but the top and sides are still open to the weather.
Esp the top around the outside of the outlet.

To keep the weather out I had a local canvas repairer make up a cover for my HWS. The material used is heavy pvc vinyl, the same stuff used for the floor in some campertrailers and tents. It just slips over the top and is held on by a couple of velcro tabs. When I get time I can post up some pics if your interested.

Pics would be great thanks. Do you take the cover off every time you use it? Mine is also plumbed into the kitchen so I don't want to be removing the cover every time I need hot water.....

Yeah usually...I cover it up when I know there's rain around or when we are camped in dusty conditions.

As promised kiwipride...sorry for the wait .

I have the system mounted via an arm coming off my spare wheel carrier...this I remove each time we up camp and move...not an ideal system, I would much prefer something permanently mounted, but hey it works.

Camping Solutions Cleveland Bisbane...over the years they have done a few repairs for me and have done a good job for a reasonable price. They also made a kitchen cover for those over night stays when I didn't want to put up the awning.

Am I missing something.  You couldn't run those heaters with a cover on. It would catch fire.

That's right...its only on there to protect from rain and dust while not being used.

We have ours mounted in a jerrycan holder, couple of nuts and it comes out if need be.
I plan on cutting a jerrycan up to slide over it as a cover, but haven't got around to it.

Sarahs Canvas also does covers for these, she's a member of the forum.  Look in the business for sale section.

When set up for a few days or more mine needs to stay out as it's connected to the kitchen for hot water. Does any else do this and if so do you just put a tarp over it like me? Would like a different solution.

This thread made me get my a into gear and made the cover.  ;D

I don't bother with covering it when camped, unless it's not being used and it's pi#sing down.

mine is mounted inside my trailer, main reason being I don't need to set it up, just simply flick the switch and make sure gas is on and it works, no connecting water lines or anything.

this picture shows it mounted behind my drawers
