Hi,

I am trying to find wide brim "Akubra style" hats for my two kids.

They need a wide brim hat for sun.protection, that will also keep a fly net off their face.

They don't need "Akubra quality" hats as they out grow any hat before it wears out (even cheap bucket hats they outgrow before are worn out). This means there is no point buying a $100+ genuine Akubra.

I have tried the local camping shops but none have this style for kids.

So...
1. Where do people buy kids size wide brim "Akubra style" hats? Or

2. Does anyone have similar hats that there kids have outgrown they would like to sell/trade?

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions.

The kids have just turned 4 and 6 yrs old.

I'll investigate the suggestions linked about but am concerned that most appear to have 'soft brims' - are they strong enough to support fly nets? I though they'd need something with a fairly solid brim aka Akubra style.

I'll go and have a look on the weekend and report back.

I often where a fly net over my terry towling hat the brim is not very broad and it sits back on my face a bit sometimes but I think those school type hats at big w stay out pretty well they have to be wide for outdoor play at school good luck

We tend to use the wide brim straw hats by Quiksilver or Rip Curl for our boys. Nice wide brims with a sweat band but don't get hot in them and they cost $15-$20

Well... Thank you Nay-DMAX, GGPatrol, Fuji, Lost and ozbogwam.

I am happy to announce that Nay-DMAX is the winner with the $7.92 Big-W hat.

They are cheap, have a wide brim, and the brim is more than strong enough to support fly nets.

Yes, I made the kids try them on in Big-W with the fly nets... I wonder what the other shoppers thought?  ;D).

The Big-W hats even come in a range of sizes (not 'one size fits all') and a range of colours. Each kid has a different size and colour.

I would have never considered going to Big-W for a wide brim camping hat.

Thanks again everyone
