Summer 2013/4 Fire Warnings
« on: December 03, 2013, 03:04:04 PM »
Not sure if there is already a thread for this.  If yes, happy for mods to merge together, but feel it could be a long hot dry summer and the more current info out there, the safer for everyone.
Just had this one come up on my FB page for the Flinders Ranges area.

Always suggest for anyone travelling that you keep up to date with local, state and national emergency services and not just rely on the info here.

Yeah best bet is to check the local RFS website. I'm a member of the NSW RFS and they're pretty good at keeping it up to date especially in bushfire season. Also checkout the Fires Near Me App on your smart phone

Straddie has a fire toward the north of the Island.
it has broken containment lines and entered 18mile swamp, this backs onto main beach

All main beach camping areas are south of the causeway and at the moment the fire would be 5km north of this (causeway/ Tazi road) but the wind is turning Northerly- just to be aware as campers are already traveling to the Island

Well, don't say I didn't warn you.
There's a fire at Terrible Hollow on Mount Buggery.
Who'd have thought?

Anyone else loaded the new Vic cfa Fire Ready App?

Seems to work really well, and I've got it set for 2 areas.
1 - 25km's around home and
2 - 30km's around wherever I (and my phone) are.
Never realsied how many fires occur across the state.

I've also got two zones set up but I keep getting alerts outside the range. Very annoying.  Would be helpful too if it showed what kind of fire is active.  Vicfire app is much better.  I use both. Just in case:)

most interested parties would already know- but camping at Main beach Stradbroke Island have been evacuated.
will get interesting today when the wind shifts, and real interesting as the wind and temps increase into Friday and Sat.
