Hello to all fellow my swagers.....
 Well I have camped plenty of times in the tent, in the horse float and in my swag and now we are looking at purchasing a camper trailer as we are sick of putting up the tent, filling the car with gear so we would prefer to have it all in one!
Looking for advice and help with it all, have been scouring gumtree, ebay, reviews and websites and this site seems to be a wealth of knowledge. Our budget is about 5k so I realize for this we are only getting a basic model but for the amount we will be using it I just cannot justify the extra atm
..
Reviews on some of them have left me baffled and scared as we are not mechanically minded at all !
I will search for posts so I can to ease my fears as it is a big decision for us.
 We are a family of 3,our daughter is 6 and we do travel to some of the country music festivals and camp, so this would make it so much easier for us to just hook on the trailer and go and maybe be able to do a few weekends away too!

Hoping we can get one before October..... as I don't want to have to be setting up the tent again and overloading the car with all the camping gear!
Looking forward to having the experts help with any advice .....

WE also have a 4wd landrover disco 2 - so we are looking at OFF road models.

Welcome to MySwag, you will find plenty of info here, particularily around the campers in your budget.  Try looking in the for sale section here there are often some really good units in there.

Just do your homework and ask loads of questions as previously said,
there is a wealth of knowledge and helpful people available here.

awesome - so can anyone tell me which ones to steer completely clear of?We did go and look in one in campellfield on the hume ( not sure if I can say names ) but starts with an E ;D - no service from the people at all when we walked in and when we did ask he was too busy too help us - walked straight out and will not go back, there are so many of them on ebay ( not Australian made) and figured if they cannot give you service in store there follow up would probably be the same - so will definitely not be going down that track, have also now read a lot of negative feedback about them......
My husband has also looked at the MDC ones.... but again I have read negative things on these. Im so confused....

What should I be looking at ? sorry if I am posting in the wrong section but if someone can let me know the best one to post in I will be forever grateful :)

There are good and bad with any I think.  MDC is an import, one of the members on here, campingwithkids, has one and is very happy with it, so happy he now works for them, maybe worth having a yarn with him.

Welcome to the forum Deb.

My strong suggestion is to do some research and then go and look at the CT in the flesh.  Crawl all over it and make sure that it will do what you want it to.  When you have narrowed your search done a bit, do a search on here and I am sure you find some reviews.  If not ask and somebody will surely be able to assist.  Good luck.

Welcome to the forum Deb, we started our search at the four wheel drive and camping shows, that way you can compare different CTs all in close proximity !

Welcome Deb - I entered the CT world with my 2000 off road Dingo for $3400 - would not change it for anything else.  Have four kids and we use a couple of tents as extra rooms when needed.  Good Luck with your search!!

G'day. I was a lurker here for ages before signing up.  I only really signed up when I had kinda chosen my camper. I was lucky enough to have the main one I wanted to look at on display at the home style and camping show here in rocky this weekend.

I haven't interacted a lot here yet but seem like. Good bunch of people.

G'day Deb,

Have you thought about hiring one (or more) for a few trial weekends away? 

If this is an option, its a good idea so that you get to work out the things that you do and dont like/need.  We did this and found it helpful.

Good to see some more girls on the forum too  ;D

Welcome to the group..

there are plenty of different types of campers out there, the easiest to put up are hardfloor campers..

mae sure you get along to as many different camping and caravan shows as you can, that way u get lots of ideas..

and as stated above, maybe even hire one or two to get some experience..

and once u start travelling with your new camper, u might do what we did and see some thing better and then upgrade..
so best to hire and learn, rather than buy and then buy again.
