Jayco camper tv antenna

Gday All
The time has come to sign off on our new ob hawk.
In going through the final order form I noticed 'TV Antenna' as an option.
Does anybody have  Jayco antenna?
Are they wind up?
Is there a better option?

Also is the cd/radio any good ?

Any advise appreciated.

Hi,

I have just ordered a Swan and decided against the cd/radio. Indtead I will take the ipod/cd/radio from home. Cheaper option and can have on the bench instead of bending down to it. The TV antenna was included in the active pack i ordered and think it is a standard one, not the wind up.

Firstly the cd unit with external speakers are awesome. Secondly, not sure of the Jayco tv antenna but I did my own and is pretty easy with booster.

CD Unit which takes USB thumb drive or IPOD, External speakers only cost about $200 installed.......

Did you put the external speakers in yourself ?
Faarrk I don't know if I'd want to hack into the side of it with  jigsaw!

I thought I'd read somewhere that the cd radio was a pioneer unit but buggered if I can find that info now.

Been checking your antenna out ..looks the goods

No, the internal and external speakers where put in at factory. Yes, the CD unit is Pioneer and you can have your music on USB thumb drive (which is what I have 8Gb) and can take IPOD also. The antenna works fine but works better with booster amp fitted which was about $60 and very easy to install.... :cheers:

I used the Foldaway also on my Swan, even worked pretty well without the booster, great bit of gear.

in fact think it worked better than the wind up I now have on the Expanda

Teabag, can you explain the booster instal please?  I just looked in my '10 swan for the back of the antenna input, how in the bugger do I access it? I figure I'd best instal a booster Right where the antenna inputs into the van, can't access the back of the connector plate nor find and coax cabling anywhere

I'd. Appreciate and tips you have

It is pretty simple. Where you plug your TV into the antenna socket internal, you mount this amp/booster http://dicksmith.com.au/product/L4206/kingray-tv-uhf-vhf-masthead-amplifier. You need a power point near to plug in the booster which plugs into the amp. You get one coax to run from the van socket into the amp and another coax out of the amp to TV. It is easy as there is only 3 sockets. You don't need to remove panels, all plug and play......

PS: I didn't buy mine at Dick Smith but it is similar and was cheaper at my local TV specialist.

How do you get the antenna coax into the inside of the camper?
Did you use a direct connector socket from the foldawayantenna website?

It is there from factory. It comes standard with one external on the drivers side to plug the antenna, one on the awning side to plug the tv in external. Then there is one standard internal to plug thetv in.......Go to the dealer and check it out....http://www.jayco.com.au/Products/Camper_Trailers/Nav_1_e/Features_Q/default.aspx... ;D

Hi All, great pics of various antenna set ups.  I ordered my Hawk OB last week (final sign off this morning with 2 x 100amp batts as recommended by teabag). Dealer showed me a Winegard roof mounted 'wind up'' antenna with amp boost - factory fitted for $350.  It operates from the inside, no need to get wet or go out in the dark all for $350 with booster could not say yes quick enough.  Also added the Pioneer CD mp3 / tuner - factory fitted with 2 speakers for $300.  Really like the idea of the USB with memory stick for music.  I ordered simplicity suspension and noticed on the factory sign off sheet that they had upgraded axle to 2T with 50mm spacer - no additional charge.  Like teabag said the Waeco 12v fridge is not wired to the battery packs from factory so we'll have to do at the dealership on arrival.  Cheers macca.

I would have jumped at that also. Shame they didn't have that option when I bought mine......

The winegard wind up jobs look alright don't they.

What brand tv are you going for?
Jayco were trying to sell me a brand called sphere, they reckon they can handle rough roads etc!

Hi Swogjb, the wind up antenna the dealer showed me was very tidy on the inside with all wires / booster etc out of sight - I had the nod of approval from the ironing lady. Looks the Sphere 19'' with DVD will be the one for us. Not cheap at around $500 but if we can believe the marketing blurb the 12 volt system is capable of handling the voltage variations in the battery packs that we'll be using when not hooked in to 240V. Hopefully the design can cope with some bouncing around on the roads better than a std electrical store LCD.  Still can't believe I missed out on the stone guard....  Did you shave much off the dealer RRP?

Folks - how good is the quality of the TV reception on the Jayco setup?

Sounds a dumb question, but do you have to be in a city area to get a decent reception or will it work adequately out in the bush?

Paul, I've posted a few times about the virtues of satellite tv and can't recommend it highly enough. If you have enough battery capacity (& obviously the ability to recharge it) then for some expense up front you will have PERFECT reception where ever you go. I tried an antenna for a year and a half and there were very few places where it would work well enough to watch. All you for satellite is a small inverter to run the set top box. Itech world in WA are doing huge discounts lately.

Thanks nbd - quick question....do you need to use the VAST set top box, or will any digital set top box do the trick?

One of the advantages of sat tv is you can get ALL the channels Australia wide. So, if you cook tea, clean up, put kids to bed then decide the news would be good but its 8pm, just select the WA channel and your in business. Not much good if you happen to reside in WA though....

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but just researching antenna setups!
Interesting you say the awning side external is standard as well. I don't think it is. I just purchased a 2011 Eagle, and it has antenna in on the external on kitchen window side, but there is no output on the annex/door side on the external. Only an internal antenna out.
Perhaps its only standard on the Outback models do you think?

I cannot believe that you mob go "camping" and take a television with you and all.  I do not even have one of those at home, and will never want one, but I wonder how it is camping when you quite literally take your house with you, minus the bricks and driveway.  Oh well, we are all different.
