Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
« on: October 04, 2014, 04:31:53 PM »
Hi all

Currently running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on a Dell Celeron Laptop.

I am pretty new to Unix / Linux etc but I am relatively pretty good with computer stuff, kinda...

I can't get Ubuntu stable at the moment, anyone cluey with this?

Happy to provide further info as needed as I'm enjoying tinkering with this OS, but often locks up, stalls, etc and I have to resort to the old Alt + Print Scrn REISUB...

Cheers in advance...

Robbo

Very odd , I am not having lockup issues Running 14.04 LTS

Doing a google search many people have isues and it appears to be a video issue.

Have you checked the video drivers ?

Try different distro's untill you find 1 that you like and runs properly on your hardware. I use mint kde on our main computers and run elementary on a 5 year old laptop. Both run beautifully but I tried about 10 before settling on these

Try upgrading the BIOS on the PC to see if this helps.

Sometimes some of the older laptops hardware are well supported by some of the current Linux distros, Windows isn't much better either.

Usually this means something doesn't work but system stability isn't often a problem. If you can solve the problem with a restart of the X Windows server you may have a config or driver issue. Try reducing the screen resolution to see if this helps.

Thanks all. Presently on way home from Qld. I'll give it some attention in the next few days. More questions to come.
