Too windy to go camping

As I am fairly new to camper trailer camping, just looking for opinions on when it is too windy to go camping and don't go. I have a hard floor camper and am looking to go camping near on the beach next weekend. Forecast is saying constant 25 knot winds all weekend. It is an off shore wind so should make it a bit better. What are your thoughts? And I have a 12 wk old baby does this make a difference?

What other factors are in play? Are other people/families involved? How long has the trip been in planning? Does it require permits and/or pre booked barge trips to reach destination? Is the particular weekend the only one that suits all people involved? What activities are planned for this trip? Will wind affect the setting up and stability of any gear/tents etc?
The answers to these types of questions will tell you whether the trip is still an option or not. Personally I reckon beach camping in windy conditions = sand in even more places than normal (including your and your baby's eyes and mouth) and the noise of flapping tarps etc can be hard to sleep with. Chairs also can have a habit of blowing over. Just my 2c. You will know the right decision...

My tip if you have a tropical roof; take it off before it blows off. The flapping of the tropical roof will drive you crazy too! The rest of the rig should be alright in the breeze. 

You are not camping right on the sand so sand blasting might not be a worry.

Last school holidays we were camping at St Helen's and the wind picked up to gusts of 100km+ and thought our lifestyle CT was going to tip over. If you have all the anchor points pegged down and guy ropes attached you will be surprised what they can withstand. Congratulations for the new addition to your family and if any thing like my kids they will more than likely sleep through it all.

I've only experienced it once (too windy for camping). It was Easter about 2 years ago at Robe in the National Park.

The wind was so strong people with swags were having the wind pull out their pegs (truly) and everything was getting "sand blasted". We wimped out and stayed at the bush camp in Robe

Ahh St Helens on a windy day, if you survived that any in the country will be a piece of cake

We survived a Storm while camped at St Helens, 120nott winds coming from the sea, blew every pop top off every poptop van in the van park, we thought we were going to be blown 5k inland the wind was so strong, didn't sleep well that night.

My tip is just go, on 99.9% of times it only lasts a day and just because it windy at home, doesn't mean it windy where your going.

A tip if you are camped and the wind picks up and you have the awning out, either pull it down or make in fully enclosed to reduce the flapping, check all the ground pegs and loose items(storm flaps and so on.

A little bit of rain you can handle but gusty wind is a pain.

We recently stayed at Coles Bay in Tassie and the wind was up to or over 100kph, it was the worst nights sleep we have had. A constant wind in one direction is probably bearable but the gusty wind was shocking. The canvas is very noisy and the camper shook and flapped for several hours.
Luckily we had high wind warnings so we took our awning down and secured the main tent as best as we could. We were in soft sandy soil with standard length tent pegs and they were all ripped out of the ground the next morning.

So to answer the question when is it too windy to go camping? 25kph winds wouldnt stop me but a severe wind warning will now stop me! The point in between that is up to the individual I think

yea had similar there... love the place, but its always cold and windy.

Thanks for the feedback. There will be no sand so all good in that department. It will be the mrs birthday and it is hard enough for her to come so I am trying to avoid her having a bad experience. Have been in worse but wanted to know when it becomes uncomfortable. We are going anyway so worse case I become a solo camper after this weekend.

Think that was the same time we were at Lakeside CP in Robe. Inland was a bit better, but we still had double guy ropes on each pole and a peg in everything that asked for one.

Just got back yesterday from a weekend at Tallebudgera Tourist Park on the Gold Coast. Friday night was rainy with winds gusting to 40 knots. It was hard to sleep  with all the flapping and we didn't set the awning up on our trailer, just the tent, but she withstood the wind with no dramas.
