Drifta Fridge setup Advice

Greetings All,

Have decided on the trailer...Now working on the kitchen. Initially was thinking Drifta DPOR Fridge package though am uncertain about the practicalities of such a setup. Looks good and am sure would be useful once setup. Having not yet owned a fridge I wonder if it may be better to invest in a bigger fridge for the back of the car and just get the standard Drifta DPOR. The Drifta setup is limited to a 60L Fridge ARB/EvaKool models. I have a wife and 3 little girls to cater for. looking for some thoughts on this. Cheers.

You've obviously got the kitchen choice right  I've got the DRIFTA DPO and I still take 2 fridges away when we go..... I do consume a few beers though 

I honestly think even if you had the 60 ltr in the kitchen you would still need another.. I think go with both if finances allow

I don't own a fridge but spend a fair bit of time camping with the wife + 3 kids.  I get by with a 70L ice box.... It's 2/3 full of ice and beer. 60L should be big enough.
If it were me.. i would have a spot for it in the car (i.e. a slide) and also in the trailer.  Use it for short trips out of the car but when going for long trip it would be in the trailer.

70L ice box is good for 4days. After that it needs ice. Mind you, I am adding warm beer to cool it down.
I'd say a 60L Fridge would be good for a family of 4 for 7 days (i.e you'd fit 7 days worth of meat, eats, milk, cheese, bacon etc and have enough room to chill a 6 pack a day.... easy).

Edit.... clearly I am doing it tough. I just use a Drifta car back kitchen(i keep it in the trailer) unless tent camping.  The drifta full length drawer is unreal 3 thumbs up!
Looking at that trackabout above. I think i just messed up my pants! Nice!

2nd edit. If you get the fridge and put it in the car, i would consider  the short pull out kitchen and Drifta Tucker box.  Always good to have food storage for the dry stuff + fruit and veg.

We camp with 2 adults and 5 kids. Our 60ltr engel is fine for us for 6 days, I just make sure that I pack the fridge in the correct containers and we circulate the drinks.

We have a DPOR drifta in our camper, our fridge doesn't fit in in the fridge hole so it travels in the walkway instead. But the fridge spot is great for transporting other stuff, it doesn't get wasted.
We use it to store our babyQ and is a good spot for groceries that don't need refrigerating, like bread, fruit, chips ect it keeps it close at hand.

Mate when i bought my Trackabout it was set up with the original DPOR Package (non fridge type),  i love the Drifta Kitchen, near as much as the CT!! .... I carry my 60ltr Evakool in the back of the wagon, most times it just stays in there, as i usually disconnect the tug from the trailer anyway, to use it to go get firewood, general running about etc, when i park the wagon, if room allows, i normally just reverse up to the annexe area so the rear of the wagon can be accessed easily.

In the past if we are setting up for a few days i have taken the fridge out and set it up in the kitchen area, though funnily enough for me and the Mrs, when nodding off to sleep the sound of the fridge cutting in and out was annoying, so i would end up switching the fridge off, not saying the Evakool's are loud, but it's just a noise that i don't want to have to hear, sort of like a dripping tap at the other end of the house, you lay there waiting to hear the next drip.... hehe

For us i like the cupboard in our original DPOR kitchen, this area we use in ours for storing pots/pans etc (this is where the fridge box is, in the fridge DPOR's) so i guess if you go for the fridge type DPOR you lose this cupboard, this is maybe why they have the draws built into the slide out box. Also, and correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the fridge DPOR fridge Package doesn't have the square tucker box? I love the tucker box in our set up, as we use it for all dry food storage.......

Either way mate, whichever one you go for, Drifta make some great gear, and you will be beside yourself with just how bloody handy it is having all your camp kitchen stuff packed away ready to go at a moments notice.......

We work like Barrabart. We have the DPOR without the fridge and love the extra cupboard space (we use as a pantry) and have the fridge in the back of the car which we pull out and put under the awning if we are staying for a while.

I think if you get the fridge package, you will then need to store the pantry food in a box somewhere. Either way, you'll have something you need to move around. It just gets down to personal preference.

thank god drifter didn't have the DPO fridge package when i ordered mine

with two adults and three kids having the pantry is well worth it, we didn't have the room for a DPOR therefore we are already tight for bench space

i have our 32L fridge in the front of the storage box easy access and extra panty at the back........i also have the kitchen and storage box opposite to the pic that trackabout has posted so that i can have both the kitchen and strage bax pulledall the way out all the time.........this seemed a better set up to me as the cook would need to get out of the way and any draws or the sink would need to be closed if we needed to access anything in the storage box

I think running 2 fridges is very wise.. if one dies, you dont have to head home  ...

I'm on the phone have a look at this thread....let us know if you want a better pic. This setup allows access to all storage area with having to slide the storage box back in when you need to use the kitchen
