thoughts anddreams.....
« on: April 20, 2013, 02:30:22 AM »
I've got the old boy farting and snoring next to me. Kid crying down the hall. TV on elsewhere. Some guy hacking cough opposite me. Nurses having a loud yack in corridor. And I'm not taking any sleep tablets.  Can't wait to get home tomorrow. My own bed, my own toilet, my own shower,my own TV and my house. Anyway, the foods better at home than here. At least I'll get real coffee and edible food.
Yep, currently lying in hospital bed with some viral infection of some sort thats knocked me for 6 and out. Scans, blood tests and ruled out meningitis fortunately. Probably another few nights in prison yet.
So laying awake unable to sleep, I've of my dodgy old phone and myswag to keep me company.
I wish Iqbal faster internet connection and a tablet or phone that was easier to use and had a bit of battery left in it.
So, I've reading the general thread, cooking, for sale, technical, mechanical and for sale sections, actually, having the time to lay down and do this has been good, just wish the situation was better.
So, crunch time.
is now the time to buy a camper, hopefully going cheap now it's winter and head off u north of WA for the winter?
Are they cheaper at this time of year?
From south west of WA, really option is to head north and then back down again at end of winter.
we don't own 4wd andhave not really been off road so don't feel comfortable about doing these real outback trips.
Pondering, is now the time to go? Where can I find that elusive camper within our budget constraints, what happens when we run out of money two weeks into it?
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Just go for it mate. Lifes too short, sieze the day, etc. As you know, any day could see ya shacked up in the hospital, or worse. Anyway hope you're feeling better soon. I was singing along all fine and then got put in hospital last Sunday, kidney stones. Ouch. A couple of days in bed certainly gives you some reflection time. Best of luck with your decision.

Cheers

Mate just go for it. You don't have to do all the off road stuff to appreciate this great country. Just hit the highway in a semi off road CT and she'll be apples. Hope you get better soon, ;D there's plenty of bargains out there.

Get well soon mate.
I reckon go for it. There is always work to be had if you are just after a quick buck or two on the road.
Just drop into orchids etc etc and ask.
Allot of people get away with doing this, or if you are savy enough the internet is a possibility.

I think gumtree and here would be your friends for a camper. I have noticed though that the ones on here seem to be better priced than elsewhere (I think we are all tight$%#S lol)

Depending on how much driving a week you do, food and fuel will be your biggest expenses.
A good friend of mine when discharged out of the army wasn't eligible for a pension. So went on centerlink payments and it was enough to keep him going for food and fuel whilst on the road.
He did this for nearly 18 months. When he got back he was a different person. He mood swings were gone, and was very content.

All he did was travel at a slow pace to no timetable. If he found a spot he liked he stayed there for as long as he liked.
His camper trailer was an old cub that he set up for free camping. Plenty of solar, good battery system, and all the modcons he needed. A generator for backup and always made sure that
if he found good clean water he topped up the twin tanks.

His biggest advice was to keep everything organised and as much carp out of the car as possible. Reason being that the more cluttered his car was the more agitated and made him want to rush.

I think if its possible for you to do then go for it.
I reckon the hardest part would be if you had a house and had to maintain it and store furniture?>...........

Get well mate.  Make sure those nurses and doctors wash their hands before they come near you!  (Wife is an infection control nurse).  Just ask them if they know the hand hygiene 5 moments.  They should!  Have some fun and google it then you can quiz them.

Hmmm..... Thoughts and dreams. My missus hates it when i'm thinkin' and dreamin'. Apparently i tap my foot when i'm thinking. I found this out while i was lying under the camper (Just looking. Honest!)  ;D with my legs sticking out. The missus came out and asked me what i was trying to work out. When i asked how she knew i was thinking of modding something she said " Because you're tapping your bloody foot again!"
Get well soon, mate. And like the others said; just get out there and do it. And if ya need anything on your way through Geraldton, just P.M. me.

I love to wake up to the sound of a Jake brake and the smell of chainsaws in the morning.

Go for it, we did.
We've been going on short trips with 3 x young kids on the few days my Wife feels well between Chemo sessions.
And besides, it is a great time to buy a camper also, sadly for owners of good campers, they are being sold real cheap now, that's how I got 1 a month ago.
To see the nice spots in Nth WA, a 4wd is not needed.
All the best
