Where do you store the ........?
« on: March 21, 2013, 06:22:51 AM »
Hi all.   Looking for some advice from those who are better at packing than we are.....
Over the past few months we have added to the items we take when travelling but we haven't added to the space available!   So help please. If you have a chainsaw and/or a generator....

Where do you carry the chainsaw and associated fuel/oil etc?
Where do you carry the generator and associated fuel/oil etc?
(oops yes, we bought one as it will be multipurpose and used for tasks when not camping which solar panels just couldn't fulfill).

Thanks in advance for replies

Get on the computer, play a few games of Tetris and then pack your car using the same principles!

Seriously though, our fuel would go in one of the Gerry holders and our chainsaw would probably (haven't taken it yet) go in the front boot in the camper. We don't have a genne and cannot foresee getting one in the near future. But if we did have one it would probably go in the staircase.

Our chainsaw is a ryobi one plus one so no fuel and it goes in the front tool box with it's very small bottle of oil.  As we have the oz pig now only need smaller wood anyway and this does the job for it.  If we have to take the big chainsaw it has a carry box and that and the fuel tin usually go in the back of the ute.  No Genny so cant help there.  We are working at getting ours packed best we can and trying to see if there are things that can stay home each time.

Thanks for the replies so far.... we use diesel in the tug so won't be carrying 20 ltrs of petrol for the new toys... it will be 5 ltrs max - I guess it is out with the tape measure and create a couple of storage boxes for the toys and their specific tools.....
Cheers,

Our car is diesel too, but we have pace for 5 Jerry cans, so it is the most logical place to keep it. Even if its not completely full, it's still better being put in the designated Jerry spot than tailing up room elsewhere.

Chainsaw is in the front box of the camper in a canvas carry bag containing all the PPE and oil. Fuel is in a small PVC tube mounted to the rack on the Patrol with a 1L trangia bottle inside it to keep it out of the car. When we are out and about exploring the chainsaw sits up on the rear drawer unit in case of track clearing

No genny for us, solar and large battery bank keeps us happy and hydrated

Chainsaw in the back of the diesel Prado,
gennie behind passengers seat,
compressor behind drivers seat,
22 L unleaded on the trailer.
5 L containers for chainsaw, gennie and boat in CT toolbox.
All the stupid things have different mix ratios.

Chainsaw, oil, and bits (excluding fuel) is in a 50L black tub with lid in the back of the car ontop of the draw system, behind the cargo barrier. Also has other things like, fuel filters, 1L of car engine oil, 1L brake fluid etc in the same box.
Genie is stored in the camper trailer, box on the drawbar along with the camp oven, dog food, billy etc.
Fuel for both is stored on the camper roof rack in a 10L split jerry can. The straight unleaded in one side, and made up chainsaw fuel in the other side. These days not too often we dont have the camper with the car, but if we do go for a day drive, we fill the chainsaw up before we go, but dont usually take the jerry with us. If we do, it gets strapped on the roof rack. We always have the axe on the car anyways if needs be.

Hi,
at the moment I carry the chainsaw with the bar off so it fits in a tub along with other stuff like PPE and fuel.
One day I will make a ply box with the shape of the saw in mind (bar on) and space for fuel, tools and PPE.
I doubt I will ever need a generator.

cheers

I cut a hole in a Milk create and the saw fits in there with a small 2 liter fuel mix and spare chain and bar oils. I then tie it down on the roof rack.

Was enough of every thing to last 2 Months from Broome to the Cape and back
