Liberty Hard floor camper
« on: July 28, 2011, 10:43:52 AM »
I bought a Liberty hard floor camper 4 months ago, and in fact my mate liked it so much that he also purchased one we set them all up and have just returned from up North QLD. Unfortunately we never made the cape as my mate needed to return to Newcastle for a funeral. I have read many comments over the years on these camper trailers and find it hard to believe some of them. May be years ago they were made in China and were poor Quality. We went to South Aussie to pick ours up and I can assure you they are made in Australia, as we were shown through their Factory. Watched them being built. Yes they do use canvas from China and that is why they are cheaper to buy. There is nothing wrong with the canvas and it rained for 2 days and in facted poured for about 2 hours, not a drop of water leaked into camper. We had no problems with our campers at all and I will tell you they were tested out big time. Big corrugations for hours .The customer service was second to none. Jon from Liberty even rang us to see how things were going.

I believe I have a camper as equal to others that are $20,000 plus and we had several people we meet on the way make comments on the quality and price.
Who were in the Cubs and Pioneer hard floors. At least with Liberty you can customise what you want and buy the camper in a DIY put together which saves you thousands. So I thought I would post this in case anyone was considering a Liberty Hard Floor.

Yes, photos, a link maybe and some spec would be good..

Your first poston the website and you're plugging a new camper, you either work for them or are really happy..

Where are you from, what do you tow it with?

Hi Gatto,

Welcome to My Swag,

It is good to see you are pleased with your camper.

One of the strengths of this forum is that everyone can have some input. I certainly have learnt heaps about CTs from the other my swag members and there experiences.  As a regular visitor to this site I have seen the good, bad and Ugly of CTs.  But also believe that the better quality shows through.

cheers

Pete

Hi Gatto

I would be interested to know which of the two hard top campers you purchased from Liberty.  We are doing the research at the moment and the larger of the two interests us.  They will sell it to us as a basic camper, no kitchen etc so that we can do our own thing and get the trailer that we want in the end.

Well, we''re just in the research game at the moment, but the budget matters, if it didn't we'd have a top of the range Aussie Swag otherwise.

I'd be interested in anything that you might have to tell that might make our decision easier.

Thanks
Loshde

Gatto,

I know they used to be made in China, I have been to the factory there and seriously thought about importing them myself as first appearances looked good. However, do a search and Liberty (and Indigo) has copped a flogging over the last few years. I know that it was only 12 months or so that Liberty was still selling the Chinese trailer in kit form for 12K with the bolt on draw bar, and you bolt it all together yourself. I am glad that they make the trailers themselves now (or are they only assembled here?) The canvas tent has been improved by a country mile but I am afraid that the Chinses steel is there major let down and did not have the quality or strenght. In saying that there is a market for budget type trailers and if it ticks all of your boxes that that's fair enough.
Before i cop any comments this was 2 years ago when I seriously looked into importing them and hopefully they have made huge improvements. What stopped me is the fact that they DID NOT meet Australian design rules, and what one W.A policeman stated on another forum is that if you have an accident and somebody gets hurt (or worse) from a wheel/gas bottle flying off the insurance will wipe you and you will be severely in the p00!!
They can upgrade/improve them all they like but you really need to see the paperwork that states they meet our design rules. If so, all good.

Hey Gibbo if I didn't know any better that brake backing plate on the hardfloor model is both upside down AND back to front... unless the leading and trailing brake shoes have been swapped to suit.
Then again the mechanism is still vulnerable and the adjuster will be hell to access

.

Not made in Oz, imported from China, touched up in Oz, they are your best friends when you pay your deposit, then when you pay the balance you get no customer service come hell or highwater!! We bought a White Rhino September 2011, had nothing but trouble, Trevor will not answer calls, messages, emails. When we bought it it said on their website "Aussie made, Aussie tough" but if you go to it now it says "Built tough", which is BULLShit!!!
