More stealing by lowlife.
« on: November 24, 2012, 10:49:52 AM »
Friends are currently camping in a well known park at Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast, Qld, when some lowlife stole their kayak.  They always lock the kayak up overnight, but on Thursday night they had loaded it on top of their 4by ready to go to another fishing spot first thing in the morning, parked right beside their camper trailer and all strapped down, but found it gone in the morning.  It appears another two were also stolen from the same park that night. Just makes your blood boil that you work hard all your life to be able to buy things and some grub or grubs just come along and steal from you!
It does go to show you have to be vigilant all the time.  Anyone else camping at Cotton Tree, watch out.
Kevin

This is me enjoying the kayak last year at Cotton Tree.

That is sickening mate.  What a way to ruin anyones day, let alone a holiday.  Hopefully they can still manage to enjoy their holiday without letting this ruin it for them.

You have to be bloody low life to steal from anyone at anytime, but let alone when they're clearly going on holidays.

Really puts a dampener on my attitudes towards some people in our society.  I hope they get caught and spend a long time in a really uncomfortable prison with bad food, no gym and no TV.  Not the reality I know.

When we bought our kayaks, I got a chain and some locks, intending to at least lock them together if not to a tree or the car or something.  Been camping with them for years and have never locked them.  Last time I got home and asked my wife why we always take the heavy chain and don't use it.  We have been either too trusting or too lazy with security.  Maybe I will start to use that chain now.

Now for a little rant.  The police might catch the low life who stole the kayak but I bet the courts let them off without so much as even a conviction recorded.  Why?  Because the legal boffins tell us that is what society expects.  Not sure about the rest of you, but that is not an expectation of mine.  Patting them on the head and just saying "Naughty boy/girl, please don't do that again" is not punishment.  I expect them to be punished with a fine or worse.  End of rant.

I just took delivery of some lockable straps for my soon to be picked up porta bote.
Hope these work. = http://kanulock.com/

As for the court system, always been the same equation.

Jail time costs money.
Can't fine then because they don't pay and defaults to jail time.
So a slap on the wrist is in order.

If there's one thing that makes my blood boil, it's thieving sh!tbags.
I had my esky, tackle box ( full set up) and chair knocked off at Sundowner on the Breakwall Port Macquarie about 12 years ago and learnt to lock down the valuables every night. What a shame we can't just enjoy our gear without taking chains and locks etc away with us. Filthy bottom feeders of society.........

I used a bike lock when i was at Coolum caravan park for an overnighter in March. There were a few people thinking I was going overboard locking the yaks on my roof. Unfortunately that was a necessary precaution.

I have added some GG cables to my kitty and they will be getting good use.

If you dont like the idea of cable locks then how about bells? Yes bells, ones that go ding when some low life trys to move your stuff. That may give u a chance to greet them and have a "discussion"

We used to go to Cotton Tree every Sept school holidays...we don't anymore because the number of people reporting stuff stolen over near the fences was getting worrying...
Its a shame because it is a lovely place.

For those who dont like the bells idea then maybe empty glass bottles. In the kayak hatch or attached with fishing line the twit cant see. They'll drop it and run once they hear the noise it makes.

You can thank me later for giving u a reason to empty a few more before you go to bed while you're camping.

The Cotton Tree CP is very much an 'open' park, lots of peope use it as a through-way to get to the beach or river (and it's great that you can do so, we go through it on our scooters or bikes all the time). However, that's one of the reasons that what happened, happened :(

Sorry to hear you lost that gear. I think that in this day and age we need to at least hide things, or make their presence less obvious - put the kayaks under the CT, that sort of thing. I am currently in the process of buying kayaks for my three kids, and we will need mum and dad kayaks too... holy crap not sure how we'll carry five kayaks and five bicycles, let alone secure them! Hmmm... I know, inverter and X-Box! We can travel light then, and get fat ;)

Have been watching fleabay, gumtree etc for a long time and finally picked one up.
Only a temporary measure as I have a deposit on one of these http://quickboats.com/ which will be available in August 2013,
when I'll sell the porta bote.

Hi,
I know of 3 kayaks sitting unlocked and in the open with out any one stealing them. Two on local beaches south of Hobart, and one beside a river at Cloudy Bay on Bruny Island.

Hope they remain unmolested for many years to come, but I imagine it will eventually come to pass even down here.

cheers
