I have been thinking about CT's lately.
In a few searches I have come across this type of thing:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Camper-Trailer-Camping-Tent-Caravan-Off-Road-Use-/140837166144?pt=AU_Tents&hash=item20ca8c9c40#ht_7003wt_1037
Whilst this one isn't right in my opinion do you think this style of CT will become the norm in the future, light wieght, easily changeable etc.
Why do we persist with heavy duty canvas when most tents are made from alot lighter weight materials.
I am not suggesting this is the be all and end all of campers but can dome shaped nylon tents be used in CT's and do you reckon they could work ok?
Cheers
Nomad.

For mine canvas is much more comfortable in both hot and cold conditions. Also the canvas will last longer.

I had my eye on these in the States a few years ago. They are a good design if you want to take a Quad bike with you.
I'm surprised that they are only $4k in Aus! Good for the occasional weekend user...

If they are that cheap then maybe for the occassional weekend warrior with a few kids, but for we hard core professional campers, probably not as we already know what works and what doesn't.

Many people are going for "tropical roofs" on their campers. This is another roof layer so I wonder if designing a tent and fly arrangement from the start would give a better result. There are reasons tents have gone this way why not campertrailers?

I think it's great to see something completely different and innovative in the market although I'm not sure these will gain popularity the way that lightweight acrylic dome tents have. $4k is a lot to spend vs a decent quality fast-erect tent at around $1k.

I like it! I don't want one but I like the idea. An incredibly light off-road version with a kitchen and all the gear we all like might shake up the market. I just don't know how long the tent or the trailer would last with lots of use though.

I think it is cool.
With the Quad it would be awsome on a hunting trip I reckon...

Not a great fan of the the multi dome set up, but can see why they chose it.
As for the choice of light weight materials vs long life spans of heavier material, I'd say that both looked after badly would result in a pile of scrap.
We have a light weight nylon type of dome tent and twin ensuite tent pushing upwards of twenty years of frequent use with little or no damage showing on either ..
