Surely there is some protection for you considering the ends you went through to check.

Hi,
  BiL was driving behind a trailer he recognised as one he built some time ago and had been stolen from his yard.
He phoned the police with the vehicle and trailer reg numbers and was told the trailer was registered as a Kings trailer (a local manufacturer).
"No way" says BiL, it is one I made and own, and should have my initials welded in under the draw bar.
His case was proven, and he got the trailer back, but had to provide another set of wheels for it as it was fitted with wheels bought by the current 'owner', and not part of the trailer he bought from a stranger.


It all gets a bit messy really.


Every one except the thief gets burnt.

About 5 or 6 years back my boss at the time had a customers trailer for repair. The customer kept stuffing about & left it there. As we had no room to store it we wheeled it around the front then used the forklift (it was a very heavy trailer) to put it in the garden. We removed both wheels & chained it to the fence in an open well lit area. This was a Friday & it was not their on Monday. It would have taken 4 or more big blokes to get it out of there but that did not stop them. If they want it, they will take it.

Last year I went to the QLD department of transport to register my home built camper trailer for the first time. I was expecting it to take a while for them to inspect it as they are supposed to do. The girl just quickly flicked through the paperwork, typed a couple of things in the computer, took my money & stamped the paperwork. I could have easily been registering a stolen $25,000 camper & no one would have even questioned it. No wonder this sort of thing happens so often.

2yrs ago, lady friend of our bought herself a brand spanker new car. Explained to the car yard that she'd like them to sort it, & register with her personal plates that her kids had bought her some 10yrs prior. No worries, will be all sorted when it comes time to pick it up.
Gets the call for pickup date...date comes...sorry, not ready, problem with registration!

Seems her personal plates, bought from & issued by the RTA had been used in an armed rob 25yr ago  :o
They'd been stolen from a trailer, & put on the getaway car...& never taken off the system!
Not even picked up when they were bought. Driving around with them on all that time as well!

Gotta love 'the system'  ::)   :laugh:
