We Are Excited!! We Have Our Freedom!!
« on: August 18, 2012, 06:10:07 PM »
Hi All,

After nearly 3 years of camping and adventures in our much loved campertrailer we have decided to become the "Grey Nomads" we really are and have purchased someones much loved and well cared for Jayco Freedom Pop Top caravan. It`s in excellent condition, nothing we can fault and with the addition of an underslung axle, solar panel and some checkerplate for bling we`ll soon be heading of for big and better adventures 8)

Cheers, Robyn.

Hi Guys,

Looks brand new, actually 2002 model, aluminium frame, fully insulated, original gas bottle ( which dealer updated to 2008 one ) even has the original tyres in excellent condition ! Rooftop air con, venetian blinds and even an underbench washing machine, ( not that we were after one, however at $4.00 per load in a caravan park, may as well use this one as we`re paying for the power and water anyway ;D and 12v pump were installed 3 years ago. Looks as though it might have been used only for annual holidays and always kept under cover :cup:

Looks really nice. Having watched Dad and his wife tour in a van I'm sure you'll love the new style of camping.   :cup:

Hi Robyn,

Your caravan looks fantastic!  Any pics of the inside?

You mentioned it still has the origional tyres on it - may i suggest you do some research on how long tyres are good for. I recall reading people say they aren't reliable (or safe) after a few years - from memory it might have been 6 years but i am not sure.  Anyone have any info on this?
Please keep in mind - I'm just some guy.  I don't know nothin about nothin!

Singo, I`m sure we`ll thoroughly enjoy ourselves :D We think we need a bit of comfort seeing as we`re both on the wrong side of 64, don`t feel that old though.

Just Some Guy, We didn`t realise until Frank checked today that the tyres are '02 and I mentioned that I had read on the caravan forum they shouldn`t be over 5 years old as they deteriorate.
We`ll definately check that out. I`ll be posting photos in My Camper Trailer section tomorrow as this isn`t the right place to have them.

 :cheers:Robyn

Looks like you have found a Beauty there mate. My parents have one identical, we have done the axel flip and spring over conversion on theirs. We got white sunrasia rims in a falcon stud pattern to suit the existing hubs in a 15x7 fits 30/9.5/15 perfect. Just don't forget to flip the electric brakes when you flip the axel.

Thanks for the info. Shane, we`ll probably get the guys at Great Lakes Caravans, Nabiac where we purchased it to do the conversion. They have an excellent reputation as repairers and after market installers as well as their good name as dealers.

When I mentioned to Wes, the owner that I couldn`t find their website, reply was "We have enough work and are far to busy to run around taking photos and answering phones and emails!"
It`s a family business with about 8 employees and they have a large display of immaculately presented caravans, pop tops, Jayco campertrailers and a few other campertrailers.

We`ve haunted the place for the last 6 months, no salesmen there to pester you, just friendly knowledgeable staff to handle any queries. :cup:

Cheers.Robyn.

Thanks for the nice remarks, we love it already and we`ve only towed it about 70 klms. ;D

Toeball, I`m pleased I`ve got the ok to stay on MySwag,  :police: I don`t think I fit in on the caravan forums. After nearly 3 years, here feels like home.

Gibbo,  When your`re 68 years young you might be glad there is a dark side to go to

Speewa,  Another pic just for you! More to be seen soon in My Camper Trailer.

  Robyn.

My brotherinlaw owns a tyre business and says tyres should be no older than 7 years old.

Thanks Memem,

We`re going to get them checked asap as we had the same issue recently with the spare on the our `94 GQ. When Frank purchased it 2 years ago he checked the spare thought it was brand new but didn`t check the date, just put a new wheel cover on and left it.

In june we had a flat just on dusk at Kempsey, changed the tyre and away we went. A week and 500 klms later he went to the tyre dealer and discovered the spare was the original from 1994 ???
No-one there had even seen that kind of tyre before (I don`t know what it was) so I guess we were darn lucky we didn`t have an accident!

I suppose it goes to show we should be more vigilant and Frank is usually very thorough with his vehicles.  Robyn
