Jayco camper dimension
« on: July 29, 2012, 11:52:52 AM »
Hi all can anybody give me the dimension of the jayco dove and swan from the early eighties .
I just bought an old one that need a lot of work ncluding the canvas and I am tring to work out what model it is.
I think it is a swan as the front table /siting section has wrap around cusions unlike the dove that has two bench seats.
I have serched the web with not a lot of luck.
My roof dimensions are 3760 mm long X 2060 wide.
Have attached a few pics of the van the night I picked it up.
Any assistance would be great thanks.

G'day odie,
I would guess it is about the same year model as our Swan is, 87.
Ours has had a full chassis replacement and a few more bits added.
Here is a link to ours, 87 Swan, Touche Turtle
Your measurements are pretty close to ours.
Your floor plan would something like this.

Ours doesn't have the Buffet bench, which going by your pictures would be the same as ours.
From door opening to the front of the wheel arch, it is about 150mm.
Hope this helps.
There are plenty of the old girls still being dragged all over the country, me might just have to ask for a Vintage Jayco section soon  ;D

Definitely late 70s or early 80s with that round nose front. Attached pic shows the shape and changes to the Dove by 1985 like I had and you'll note the hard point front and side hatch by that stage. Not sure when the front hatch shape started after that though. The 85 Dove had the fridge opposite the door with table to the left attached to front wall of camper (QS bed end) with bench seats either side. The rectangular table had a curved cutout to allow you to negotiate past the fridge to the furthest bench seat. That's how you'd ID a Dove model from that era and they were the most popular model then.
PS: It's the canvas replacement cost that junks them so do your homework.

There's no Great Evil conspiracy against consumers within engineering, manufacturing and supply. Just the many tradeoffs incurred to satisfy diverse tastes, priorities and wallets. But first comes all the insatiable Gummint eggsperts, nanny-staters and usual suspects.

Thanks guys it looks like it is a swan as for the canvas it is only worth throwing away everything else is only cosmetic and easily fixed or replaced ,but for the price I got it for it is worth having a play.

Hey odie, Have a read through this thread of Burnsy's
1986 Jayco Dove Rebuild
It has a lot of great info on how to do things.
It has given me a lot to think about on how to rebuild parts of ours.
BTW, start a thread in the My Camper section, would like to see how you go.
Good luck with it all.

Also, You can get hold of a lot of the trim and other stuff from this mob.
Caravans Plus Online Shop
I've bought a lot of gear of them.

Ok guys next question I am looking at some secondhand canvas from an 1987 model on ebay and the dimension seem the same only difference is the mesurment from the left of the door to the corner is smaller than mine . I seems strange that jayco would put door in a different place on model only a few years apart. Any idea's??? Maybe bad mesurments from seller.
