Hi folks, I am in the process of making an ex Telstra Nissan Patrol cab chassis (06 4.2 TDi) with a rear canopy into a 'remote area camper' & wonder if anyone can tell me what regulations I need to adhere to?
As I see it those that might apply would cover 240v mains connection & distribution within the camper, & lp gas storage & connections.
However, I do not plan to have any 'permanent' 240v fittings. I will carry a 240v mains battery charger with a mains 3 pin plug attached, & the calorifier (marine type heat exchanger hot water service) which has a 240v element attached to a mains 3 pin plug. As these are the only 240v items I will carry, am I right in believing that if only used via an extension cable plugged into a mains supply that there will be no regulations that I will have to meet & thus will not be required to obtain a certificate of electrical safety as I did with our bus when I converted it to a motorhome?
Secondly, LP Gas. The gas bottle will be stored in it's own separate compartment, designated & labelled for this purpose by the previous owner - Telstra. A single flexible but armoured gas line will feed only one appliance, a two ring stove & grill, mounted in a fixed position inside the canopy on the tray of the vehicle & accessed from outside. There will be no sleeping or living space inside the canopy, this being outside the canopy under an awning, and above the canopy in the form of a rooftop tent. The stove has flame out safety fittings. (The first one supplied did not & I returned it & paid significantly more for one that did, to the surprise of the supplier who told me those without are fitted legally by folks with camper trailers). Are there any gas regulations I will need to meet? I guess I'm thinking that the set up is really no different to that of someone with a family car & tent as far as regulations go, but wonder if by screwing down the stove, making it a 'permanent fixture' might change that?
