Probably a question which has been asked before: can you use any off road mapping on the iPad?

You can get a Hema Offroad map for the I-Pad 3 ($179) and it offers 70 of Hema's off-road 4wd maps.  It couples up with the already inbuilt GPS in the I-pad and combined with the large I-pad screen and good battery power I think it would be good. Have not got an I-Pad 3 (yet....) but when I do I will be closely looking at the Hema 4WD map.

Also re the I-pad 3, whilst the camera and the screen resolution are improved the key improvement is the better processor speed.  The process speed is what keeps up with the ever changing "apps".  Without being too technical, my advice is dont get persuaded by a cheaper deal on the I-pad 2 as it will have a reduced lifespan in comparison to the latest I-pad 3.  It is not the actual life of the hardward but the life of being able to keep up with apps that are evolving in line with the I-pads quicker processor speeds.  Might be able to save a few bucks today but buying a runout I-pad 2 but I think you will regret it a bit further down the track.  I will be buying an I-pad 3 in the next 2months ahead of a 4week trip in July.
