I haz questions!
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:09:12 PM »
So I thought I better introduce myself first.

So, what is my brief?

I started with a little Lada Niva in Perth back in the late 90's and spent most of my time belting up and down the sand dunes of Lancelin and windsurfing and surfing the stretch between there and the Cervantes.

Ended up with a 2.8 GU Patrol when my first daughter was born and have been treking out and around mostly the east coast of Australia in it since. We bought a little Castaway Camper about 5 years ago and it has been brilliant. Well made and trouble free. Both my kids love it and camping and we try to get away once per month. Although it is great to meet new people I just cannot come at annual meets and big treks so I am not being rude it's just that we prefer smaller groups if camping with other people. Crowds just aren't our thing. We enjoy bush camping but are equally at home in a caravan park if that means getting away.Case in point would be Freshwater up on the Noosa Coast or Fraser or the Big 4 at Hasting Point in NSW.

On a personal level, Late 30's, Ex Army, now in engineering and have been concentrating on getting that elusive "work/ life" balance just right. It has been a hard slog but after 15 years of offshore travel, 60 hour weeks etc etc I think I am finding it. I find that kids have a great centering quality and made significant changes to my life to enable this to happen. Things like going to the gym , Hapkido (Yellow, 1 stripe), no longer par taking in alcohol (my choice and I am happy with it) have all made a great difference. I find with how busy life is I needed to have more clarity in everything I do and needed to be on my game 100% of the time. I have a wonderful wife and a pigeon pair of fabulous kids.

I still respect the old traditions like reading and actually engaging in a conversation. I find there are to many places to hide on the internet and too many people hide behind Anonymity.

And that would be me.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Thanks all for taking the time to have a look - much appreciated.

For the most part I have been able to search through past posts and get all the information I need whether that be for the truck, camper or trip information but have become a little stuck on a trip I want to do to Central Australia later this year. I'll post the question in the trips forum with details of where I want want to start and the proposed route.

Hopefully in turn I'll be able to post some good trip reports which seem to go down well on this site.

Later Days,

GL..

G'day & Welcome.

Sounds like you have much in common with many of our members, be it ex-military, mining, engineering or just peeking out from behind an IP address occasionly.

Best of luck with your trip planning, there are some good historical threads on similar trips, but fresh info is always good.
