New Camper
« on: February 23, 2012, 02:22:30 AM »
Hi Everyone,

Bought my first camper trailer a couple of months ago  ;D. Just a second (third?) hand semi off/on road with an oztrail 9 tent. Already been camping in the Otways and the Grampians lots. I know that this is an offroad forum but I'm wondering how much better it can get??  All I can think about is getting away again, sitting round a fire, exploring the surrounds, catching a fish for dinner, afternoon naps with my girl and boy.  It's a pleasure to read all your great info and feel like I'm camping even when I'm not. Cheers

Thanks for the welcome everyone

Got a copy of camps 6 the same day I bought the camper (saw it recommended here  :cup:) and have been giving it a flogging ever since, best 30 bucks I ever spent.

Since November we've been to:

Yambuk (Gummy shark off the beach)
Nelson (Bream in the Glenelg)
Johanna (Aussie Salmon)
Princetown (ditto)
Port Fairy (caffe latte)
Blanket Bay (Magic!!)
Killarney (Garfish and abalone)
Lake Fyans (Yabbies!)
Mount Richmond and Lake Monibeong (Discovery Bay - beautiful)
Kennett River (Burgers and rain)

and heading to Stevensons Falls (will post some pics) next weekend (hopefully some nice Gellibrand trout or a blackfish or two). Just loving life with the camper and wouldn't be doing it without lots of inspiration and great tips from this forum, so thanks to everyone here. Hope to see some of you out and about one day!  :cup:

Welcome aboard Fridge Magnet (intriguing name BTW),

Looks like you're 'living the dream'... well my dream anyway.    Certainly setting a bench mark for most of us.

You've triggered my interest re the Camps 6 book.  How'd you manage to pick one up for that price??

Hi LJ, thanks for the welcome, I picked up a copy that had had something spilt on it from the RACV shop in Warrnambool. I don't mind, it makes me look like a seasoned camper  8) and has copped a lot worse since.  My wife dubbed me a fridge magnet once because she reckons I was practically stuck to the one in the shed, my mates got hold of it and it seems to have stuck  ???  . Although I do enjoy the odd beer it's not as bad as it sounds...really...

Righto, I'm off to my local RACV shop.  (Might grab a coffee on the way there.  Bit thirsty...  )

Welcome Fridge Magnet.

I am also new to the forum (G'day from Wagga intro not that long ago) and yes, a very good forum name "fridge magnet"!

I am sure that you have put much hard work into being crowned "he who is stuck to his shed fridge".......

It can be dangerous when both trailer and fridge reside side by side in the shed.

Nice get LJ :cup: Glad you didn't have to 'trip' with a cup of coffee at RACV (but I like your thinking).

Stevenson's Falls was a no go on the weekend due to rain, but I did manage to put this together for breaks in the weather.

My wife has put the foot down about "backyard arson" and has kindly requested that I "formalise" my fire arrangements. (She may have said "stop lighting fires on the f!@#ing lawn!!"  :-[)

So even though we didn't get to go camping had an awesome Saturday afternoon sitting around the fire, and even pulled the grill off the barby and cooked a few steaks over the coals.  Will try Stevenson's Falls again the weekend after the long weekend, fingers crossed.  :)
