WA Heatwave
« on: January 25, 2012, 09:30:32 PM »
The media here has been saying we are in a heatwave with duration and temperatures not seen since 1963 if I remember correctly.
I have lived over here all my life and really did not think it was all that hot even though I was working in the shed all day.
Just after lunch my wife called out and said the swimming pool pump had stopped working. Oh crapp I thought.
Not long after that I elected to hose out the shed as I had moved the 4WD, commodore and tractor outside to give it a good clean. Ten minutes into that, no water, the bore pump had stopped working. Crapp again.
About this time I thought, it is a bit hot so I had a look at the thermometers in the shed, one said 50C and the other 51C! Time fo a beer!
That kept me occupied until about 6.30pm and at that time I could still not walk on the paving without thongs.
Then the wife called out the microwave is going but no heat. Things come in threes I reckon so I will wait for everything too cool down and see if they all recover.
Meanwhile, I thought I would check out MySwag. No go, the modem power supply has died.
Even though our house is airconditioned, my mancave door had been shut to keep the rest of the place cool and the PC, UPS and modem were extremely hot to touch. So I opened the door to let the cool air enter that room.
So at 7pm I tried the pool pump - it worked - must have thermal cutout - first time it has done that in 19 Years!
Tried the bore pump - it worked - must have a thermal cutout - first time it has done that in 25 years!
Tried the PC and MySwag - it worked - first time that has ever happened!
Tried the microwave - no it is dead - must be out in sympathy!
It is 7.20pm now and the workshop in my shed is still at 45C.
Bugger, it has been a hot day and they forecast more tomorrow.
Just as well I brew my own grog or how could a bloke survive here in sunny WA.
