TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
for DAMAGING WIND, FLASH FLOODING and LARGE HAILSTONES
For people in parts of the
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders,
Central Highlands and Coalfields and
Central West Forecast Districts.
Issued at 6:03 pm Saturday, 14 January 2012.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Longreach, Isisford, Barcaldine, Hughenden, Blackall, Pentland, Jericho, Ilfracombe, Torrens Creek, Aramac and Muttaburra.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure loose outdoor items.
* Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
The next warning is due to be issued by 9:05 pm.
